Families of Demons - by http://www.whatischristianity.org.uk

Evil spirits do not as a rule work as individuals in a person’s life. Rather they work together in families or groups.

If a person has a fear problem, the greater the fear, the stronger the hold and the more spirits involved in the bondage area. Evil spirits gain their strength through their numbers.

Under the general heading of fear there are many different kinds of fear. For instance, insecurity is a type of fear, as is inferiority, embarrassment, shyness, worry, anxiety, etc. Also there are multitudes of fears such as the fear of man, fear of failure, fear of disappointment, fear of loneliness, fear of death, fear of water, fear of animals, fear of authority, fear of the supernatural, fear of heights, etc., etc.

If a person has a stronghold of sorrow, working together in the sorrow family may be names such as regret, self-pity, anguish, and mourning.

If a person has a spirit of rejection, usually he has the fear of rejection as well. Loneliness may also be involved.

A person who has spirits of anger often needs release from frustration as well. Spirits works together. One opens the door to the other. It is also important to realize that a person may have a number of exactly the same kind of spirit. For example, a person may have several spirits of acrophobia (fear of heights). The person comes for deliverance, receives prayer, spirits leave, and he goes away rejoicing, praising God for the victory, and continuing to walk in the ways of the Lord. Next week he goes mountain climbing and find that (to the same or to a lesser degree) he still has the problem. What does he do now? He may become discouraged, either concluding that deliverance doesn’t work or that the spirits have returned. But if he knows that there can still be others of the same spirit remaining, then instead of being disheartened, he can rise up and come against them and press on to receive complete deliverance.

We will see that deliverance is a process and it may take much time to break down a whole family of spirits. In my own experience I had many deep deliverances in the same areas over extended periods. On some occasions I literally vomited so deeply while being released, that I thought there could not possibly be any more spirits left in that stronghold. And yet I had to continue pressing in to total freedom month after month. It was these experiences that taught me the strength and depth of some demonized areas. The stronger an area of bondage, the more spirits there are involved, and usually the longer the deliverance takes to complete.

Because demons work in families, I have found it best when dealing with them, to speak in the singular, but think in the plural.

In the Gospels a group of spirits can be referred to interchangeably as "spirit" (singular) or "spirits" (plural).

In Mark 5 we read the story of the Gerasene demoniac. Verse 2 says that a man. . . with an unclean spirit [singular]. . . met Jesus. In verse 7 again it is referred to in the singular: . . . "What do 1 [singular] have to do with You, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I [singular] implore You by God, do not torment me [singular]!" But when the demon was asked its name, notice the switch from singular to plural: ... "My [singular] name is Legion; for we [plural] are many." Verse 12: . . . "Send us [plural] into the swine so that we [plural] may enter them." Verse 13: And He gave them [plural] permission... In Mark 1:23-24 the Bible says the man had an unclean spirit, as if in the singular. But when the spirit spoke, it was speaking on behalf of many spirits, for it said, "What do we [plural] have to do with You, Jesus of Nazareth? Have You come to destroy us [plural]? I [singular] know who You are — the Holy One of God!"

In both these incidents there was a spokesman. Some spirits exercise more power and authority than others. Often I speak directly to the head of a family, to the key spirit, to the leader of the group, and thus get right to the core of the stronghold.

Names of Demons
There are various names of spirits mentioned in the Bible. For example:

Unclean spirit
Deaf and dumb spirit
Blind and dumb spirit
Spirit of sickness
Deceitful spirits
Spirit of distortion
Spirit of harlotry
Spirit of divination
Familiar spirits
(Mark 1:23)
(Mark 9:25)
(Matthew 12:22)
(Luke 13:11)
(1 Timothy 4:1)
(Isaiah 19:14)
(Hosea 4:12)
(Acts 16:16)
(Leviticus 19:3 1 AV)
Through personal experience, through counseling and praying with many others, and through the operation of discernings of spirits, I have come to the conclusion that the list could go on indefinitely. ‘lb list every type of demon, you would have to list every type of sin. Also there are spirits behind every negative emotion — fear, sorrow, loneliness, rejection, etc., etc.

This does not mean that every negative emotional response stems from an evil spirit. Being sorrowful does not necessarily mean that you are bound by a spirit of sorrow. We all experience both positive and negative emotions. However, many people, through not knowing how to handle negative pressures, open themselves to spiritual bondage.

Principalities & Powers of the Air - by Reclaiming the Fields Ministries

Demons work in rank in accordance to their strength. Think of a millitary order of rank. Listed below is the order starting from least signifigant to most. Reguardless of their signifigance, all are dangerous, all are deceiving, & all loath every person who ever lived. The most important thing to know about these creatures is that they are a defeated foe through Christ Jesus. They shudder at his name when it is used against them by a Spirit filled believer.

Among the least of this system are those that possess the body. Strengths between these vary, and it is a popular consensus that demons of this type have no particular appearance (form) when able to be seen. Through the Holy Spirit opening your eyes to see things of a spiritual nature, they can be seen visually in ways that represent their purpose or ability, or can be seen symbolically.

Next would be the type that carries out tasks. These are seen on occasion and do have a form to them. They are called upon by people whose beliefs cause them to "conjure up", and are sent to do what they are told to do. Do these people have the power over demons to make them do their bidding? No. This disguise of obedience is only done for the purpose of pushing people farther away from the truth. They are also subject to their demonic superiors. These vary in strength & capabillities.

Up to a different notch are warlike demons. Their title is pretty self explanitory. They are strong, numerous, and are subject to their superiors. These do not typically stoop to be conjured up or possess the body. They also have rank amongst themselves. These cause & spiritually fight war between nations, and are sent to guard strongholds throughout the world.

Among the highest rank, is the Principality. These are typically in control of hordes of demons under them. They take control,  and have power over religions and / or organizations that do not follow the doctorine of Christ. Demons of this rank can break churches which they are assigned to, or render the body of that church ineffective. Usually a principality surrounds itself by it's underlings, and controls the area which it has been assigned to. Read of Michael's confrontation with the Prince of Persia in Daniel chapter 10. There are some demons that have a timid nature (weaker demons), most are arrogant. There are none more arrogant than a principality. They are powerful beings that are the gods reffered to in the Bible. Much supplication, prayer and Holy Spiritual intervention is necessary to overcome and rid an area of demons such as these.

Finally there is Satan himself. He too is a demon but most powerful & influencial. Most people know who and what he is. So here will be explained what he is not.
1. He is not omniponent. This is that he can only be at one place at one time.
2. He does not know all and see all.
3. He can not search out the thoughts and minds of people.
4. He does not favor any one person or group of people.
5. He does not partake in any truth, as he is the author of lies.
6. He is not faithful to those that serve him.
7. He is not in the practice of personally possessing people himself. That is what his subjects are for.
8. He has not the capacity to love, only to hate.
9. He cannot stand up against the armies of Christ.
10. He is not even close to being on the same level of power as Christ himself, as Satan would have people to believe.
11. He has no reign over the body of Christ.
12. He will have no control over his body when he is forced to bow to Christ!
13. He will have no control over his lips & voice when he must confess that Jesus Christ is Lord!
