Isle of Skye, Scotland
When I visit Skye, I like to stay in a tiny village called Flodigarry, which is on the eastern coast of Skye, facing the mainland of Scotland. In between Skye and the mainland are several small islands. This is a view of one of them, Eilann Flodigarry, nicknamed "Sheep Island", after it's only inhabitants.

In Caol Acain (Kyleakin), you will find this ruin, Castle
Moil. Legend has it that a Norse princess named Saucy Mary once lived in this castle and stretched a long chain across from her castle to the mainland in order to exact tolls from passing ships. Quite against the laws of physics, of course, but isn't it a great story?
This photo of Moil is
from my first trip to
Skye, in 1996. Note
the huge difference
in how the whole
place looks and feels
in summer, compared
to wintertime.
