You are welcome to take a peek!

I work with Prof. Saleem Khan at the University of Pittsburgh... studying how rolling circle plasmids replicate. I am also having some serious fun with a helicase called PcrA!

U Pitt is a nice place to work and the surrounding areas are great for fun and living.

Long term goal

My long term goal is to study the complex interplay of events during DNA replication, repair and recombination. I would like to concentrate my efforts on proteins that have a direct influence on accessibility of DNA to these processes, namely helicases and chromatin modifiers, their regulation and their interaction with other proteins. In the long run, I would like to focus on challenges that are imposed by non-standard substrates and how they might direct the evolution of specialized functions in proteins. I also have a keen interest in non-coding DNA and mobile genetics elements and genome plasticity. Until now, I have been attempting to address these questions in bacteria. Using my experience in biochemistry, I wish to develop cell free systems for performing biochemical analyses with reconstituted proteins. I believe in the power of genetics and biochemistry.
