This was a chance for several of us to meet some new members, scout a new area and do some muzzle-stuffing! The day was basically a relaxing scout through some beautiful country and a nice lunch break. We all made small, individual fires using a method other than flint and steel. Being lazy and hungry we all pulled out burning lenses and had our fires going in no time flat. I brought a buffalo tongue to share. I'd parboiled it early that morning, so it was ready to "heat and eat." I found a snage and pulled of a good sized chunk of bark for my plate. No one, including myself, had ever tried buff tongue before, so it was quite an experience. Overall, everyone agreed it had a good taste, but rather odd consistency. Ron Breuss summed it up best when he said it was "mealy, ... like the center of a Vienna frank." Even with five guys, that tongue was too much to finish completely off. Aaron Faust's border collie at well that day, and I may have made a friend for life!
The afternoon concluded with Seven Days (Greg Weeks) hanging out an iron fry pan for us to shoot at. We had a good time, shared some beer and got to try out each other's firelocks. |
