As I lay one night in fitful sleep,
The night so dark, silent and deep,
I woke to find beside me there,
An Angel with long, golden hair.
She was shining in the dark of the night,
With streaming rays like the dawning's light
She wore a long robe as white as the snow
Her rosy cheeks make her face seem to glow.
She looked at me and smiled so sweet,
Then, softly, she began to speak.
You have no need to be afraid
To comfort you is why I came.
Then she brushed my cheek with her hand,
So that my aching heart would understand,
The Lord commanded His Angels for all my days,
To keep and protect me in all my ways.
I reached out to touch this Angel so bright
And she disappeared in the dark of the night
But my soul found peace in that heavenly vision
On the night an Angel came to visit.
Our lives will still have heartache and grief
But those times in life will always be brief
If you trust in the Lord who died but has risen
One night His Angels might pay you a visit.
