Jaguar R3 could be scrapped

It’s rumoured that the R3 could be junked completely and that the team will design and build a brand new chassis in time for the summer. Jaguar are to have a crisis meeting to decide whether to scrap the R3 chassis. The R3’s lack of outright pace was badly shown up in qualifying at the weekend when Eddie Irvine and Pedro de la Rosa could only managed a desultory 19th and 20th on the grid.

The team could run the R2 while trying to pinpoint and fix the problems with the R3. However, team insiders believe that the R3's problems are too far-reaching to be solved without designing a brand new car.
