Journal 6: The Human Jesus

The main idea in this section is that Jesus is human. He experienced all the same things that we experience today, with the only exception of sin. He felt doubt in the Garden of Gethsemane along with fear, confusion, and every other feeling and emotion that we feel. He was like us in EVERY way except sin. Many people overlook this essential part of Jesus. They dismiss him because they believe that he was only God. Why should they follow him if he knew what was coming all along and if he never really suffered? But their thinking is flawed. Jesus didn’t always know what was coming, and he most certainly did suffer. He suffered and died. This section also focuses on giving evidence of God’s existence through nature and through the human person. It’s about apologetics, a defense of the Faith by showing that the weight of the evidence favors Christianity. This evidence can come from science, philosophy, and theology.

The Golden Ration can be found throughout nature. To me, besides being just really cool that a specific irrational ratio can be found repeatedly in seemingly random nature, this also points to God, or at least some intelligent creator. How is it that over billions of years, everything worked out just perfectly so that we get a ratio which appears in many natural bodies on our planet. I can’t believe it was an accident.

Another argument for God’s existence is through religious experience. Throughout history, cultures have turned to some kind of higher being. Humans feel a need to turn to a god of some kind to help them through their lives and give their lives meaning. 99% of the people living on the earth believe in some higher being. Surely this has to point to God’s existence. He put us on this earth and in us put a desire to seek for Him.

The Beatitudes are a major part of Jesus’ teachings. They are blessed are the poor in spirit, those who mourn, the meek, who hunger and thirst for righteousness, the merciful, the pure of heart, the peacemakers, and those persecuted for the sake of righteousness. These were and still are some very radical thoughts and teachings. Who wants to humble themselves and go against their human nature to seek out power; to put others before yourself? These give us things to strive for. The Ten Commandments give us guidelines to follow, but the Beatitudes really give us something to go after, and we can always do a better job. We will never be perfect, but we can strive to get as close as we can.

This is an example of the golden ratio in nature. Each layer increases regularly by the Golden Ratio.

Am I letting Jesus be a Model of Faith for me? Or am I just dismissing Him as God who never felt pain or temptation? How can I use Jesus' example to improve my own way of living?

To make me a better person, i will try to see what Jesus did in his times of temptaion and doubt and apply those actions to my own life. I will also strive to better follow the Beatitudes. These things will truly make a good person who puts others before themselves.
