ATTRACTIONS
Acme Attractions was always more than a clothes shop.  A place to hang out, meet friends, score speed, clothes, girls and the other teen essentials, all in all, possibly the finest clothes store in the world. Acme has become something of a legend, but that's not how things started.
Back in the mid Seventies the dominat teen look trailed in the wake of saccharine pop - Showaddywaddy, Wings, Glitter Band - that monopolised the airwaves.  It was like this : long hair, flairs, platforms, jumbo collas.  Not everyone of course, wanted to look like, or listen to,  The Rubettes.

Eschewing the existing pop culture, this original: Cult With No Name dressed in Forties and Sixties casual wear,  wore their hair short ( boys and girls ) and flocked to clubs like Chaguaramas, Crackers, The Goldmine and the  Lacey Lady.
London was the focal point fot these hip young soul cats,  and a shopping expedition to the smoke always included this essential stops : Acme Attractions in the basement at Antiquarius market in the Kings Roard
The first thing you noticed as you descended the stairs to the Acme basement was the almost deafening heavy-duty dub that sent shock waves through the backbone, the kind of reggae that good little white boys just didn't hear anywhere else

The Face Magaxine - 1984
