KULLIYYAH PROFILE

The Kulliyyah of Science, began operations in the year 2002 and offer studies in various pure and applied branches of the natural sciences. Initially, it comprises of two centres: Biological Sciences and Computational & Theoretical Sciences. In the second phase of its development, it will establish two more centres: the Centre for Physical Sciences and the Centre for Interdisciplinary Studies.

With the Kulliyyahs of Medicine and Pharmacy, the Kulliyyah of Science will share one of the most tastefully designed academic campuses in the world. The architecture of IIUM’s Kuantan campus is inspired by both Islamic traditions and modern ideas of utility. The 1,000 acres it occupies lie within a forested area that is every nature lover’s dream. The kulliyyah’s permanent physical facilities will be completed in the year 2006. In the meantime, it is operated from the Kuala Lumpur campus. After 2006, the kulliyyah will expand rapidly, with many more programmes to be introduced in stages. The permanent buildings are designed to accommodate up to 2,000 students and 200 faculty members.


FACILITIES

The Kulliyyah of Science currently provides the following facilities:

·  One general purpose computer laboratory

·  Two Biotechnology laboratories

·  Three Biomedical laboratories

·  One optical laboratory

By the year 2006, the Kulliyyah of Science will have the most up-to-date and comprehensive facilities and equipments to cater to students needs. It will have resource centres, laboratories and workshops tailored for all its different requirements as well as advanced and specialized instruments to aid the learning process.

ACADEMIC STAFF

   Members of the academic staff are active in research and consultancy. Their works have frequently been published in reputable international journals. They include recipients of the National Young Scientist Award and scholars listed in the Malaysian Book of Records. The kulliyyah requires all members of the teaching staff to be qualified with a PhD degree. Those who have not obtained their PhD will be sent for further studies at universities of renown
