Part 5
Tad and Dixie were playing together alone. They were standing and Tad told her to run. Dixie laughs as she begins frollicking away from him. "Come and get me," she shouts. Before Tad can do that, however, three boys that were the bullies of the school came up to Tad. They teased him about him and Dixie's friendship. They said, "You gonna chase your girlfriend, Martin?" "She isn't my girlfriend," Tad said firmly. The bullies teased Tad more and more. Then Dixie, being the braver one between her and Tad, came up and told the bullies off. She leads Tad away and says, "Don't listen to those guys, Tad. They just don't get us." As they walked away, the bullies and some other kids chanted, "Tad and Dixie sitting in a tree, k-i-s-s-i-n-g. First comes love. Then comes marriage. Then comes Dixie pushing a baby carriage." Tad thought Dixie would end their friendship now, especially since she didn't say a word to him after that, and all they did was swing until recess was over.

Tad and Dixie stuck to their sleepover at his house that night. It was around the time for them to be sleeping. They were still awake. "Dixie, are you mad at what happened at recess?" "I'm mad at what the bullies said and did. I wanted tp punch them for teasing our friendship." "So, you're still my friend," Tad asks. "Of course, I'm still your friend. We'll be friends forever and nothing will ever change that." They both yawn then. "Good night, Tad says softly after a few minutes pass. He realizes Dixie is already asleep. Then Dixie rolls over onto Tad. He holds his friend all through the night as they sleep.
