Part 6 | ||||||
Tad and Dixie remained best friends all through middle school as well. They had their fair share of fights and disagreements. When they learned about sex and growing up, they kept their distance from each other. They were unsure of their relationship since he's a boy and she's a girl. Tad had a good chat with his dad, and Dixie had a long talk with her mom and Lanie. They each learned that it was okay for a boy and a girl to be friends without having or worrying about sex. Tad and Dixie had a serious conversation afterward and resumed their friendship. Even though they agreed to be just friends, they did sort of hint that they might/could be more than that. That summer before 7th grade started, Tad and Dixie decided to go on their first outting alone, their first official date. They were almost 14 and their sexual maturity had begun. They each got prep talks and advice from their parents. Lanie, now 18, drove them to a movie and, afterward, dinner at a fast food place. She respected their privacyand sat alone, away from them. She didn't mind being alone. She enjoyed having the time to herself. Tad and Dixie were a bit nervous, but they managed everything just fine. They talked and laughed together It didn't seem like a date to them. They were just hanging out like friends do. When their "date" was over and Lanie drove them home, Tad and Dixie said goon-night, and Tad gave her a kiss on the cheek. She smiled. Tad and Dixie went on a couple of more dates like that. One particular date was something special. It was the end of summer before entering high school. When they were saying good-night to each other, Tad kissed Dixie on the lips, and Dixie kissed him back. The kiss lingered for a couple of seconds, and then they both pull away. "Wow," says Dixie, "I've never kissed anyone like that before." "Me neither," says Tad a little breathlessly. "It was weird, but I liked it," says Dixie amazed. "So did I. Do you mind that I kissed you?" "No, Tad. I don't mind at all." "Good. So, we're still friends, right?" "Yes, definitely", says Dixie. "Cool. Well, night, Dixie." "Night, Tad." Dixie kisses his cheek, and they walk home separately. Both of them had just experienced their first kiss. |
