Part 7 | ||||||
As freshman year went by, Tad and Dixie learned more about sex, STDs, love, and how wrong it was to do drugs and drink alchohol. They vowed to themselves and each other to never do nay of that bad, unhealthy stuff at least until they were old enough. At night they often thought about one another. They realized they "liked liked" each other. They wanted their relationship to be more than friendship. However, they decided not to let the other know because neither of them wanted to ruin their friendship. Tad and Dixie kind of buried their blossoming romantic feelings for each other because their friendship comes first and foremost. Tad tried dating other girls, but nothing becomes a long term relationship. Dixie was dating one guy for a while, but he broke her heart by seeing another girl and almost having sex with that girl. Dixie has never had her heart broken like this, so she was very angry and depressed. Her friends tried to console her, but she was still sad. She talked to her mom about it, and she felt better. Then, one night, Tad came to visit her, and they had a deep conversation in her room, sitting on her bed. Tad had heard some stuff, but wasn't sure if it was true. So, Dixie told him the whole story. Dixie had caught the guy with the other girl making out at his house, and she had ended the relationship right then and there. "And that was that. I had it with him. It was over," Dixie concluded, starting to cry again. Tad reached for her and rocked her as she cried. "Shh. Shh. It's okay," he said. "I know," replied Dixie, "My mom told me that it's okay to cry and let it all out. I thought I did that already." They didn't say anything as they held onto each other, and Dixie cried some more. Soon, Dixie stopped crying, let go of Tad, and sat up. Tad put his hands on her face and wiped her tears away. "I know what guys are like and not just because I am one," said Tad, which made Dixie smile. "They can be real jerks, but some are real sweethearts. Be careful the next time you get involved with a guy. Ok?" Dixie nodded her head up and down and said, "Thank you. I know you mean it." "There are other guys, Dix. And you'll probably be heartbroken again. But don't let it get you down. Just get over it ASAP and move on," Tad then said with a smile, "That way, you can focus on more important things. Like me." Dixie smiles and said, "Is that so?" "Oh, yeah." Then Tad asked, "You know how I said that some guys are real sweethearts?" Dixie nodded a 'yes'. "Well...they are probably the ones with girlfriends. You know, already taken and spoken for. So watch your back." Dixie was silent for a moment. Then she laughed and said, "Except you. You're not taken or spoken for," she laughed again, "What's up with that?" Tad smiled at her and said, "I don't know, but there's that laugh I enjoy hearing. so much" "I should get going," said Tad, standing up, "but if you ever need to talk or you get heartbroken again, you just call me. I'll be there. I will always be there for you. I mean it." "I know you do. And I will call. You've made me happy again. I'm very grateful," Dixie responded. "Hey, what are friends for?" "Right," said Dixie with a smile, also standing up. Then they hugged. Dixie realized that Tad was the person she could count on to make bad times better and to make saddness go away, and they both realized just how special their true blue friendship really was. |
