August 31, 2003 Left is Sunday morning just before I remove all the screws holding all the of planking down. The aft end received full size sheets at full length up to the #7 frame. The screws, unlike brads, provide me a ring of adhesion every 4 inches, the spacing of my screws. I does take some time to drive the screws, but I screw pretty well. Or should I say I drive screws pretty well. Only a 1/2 hour per side to remove the screws about 300 per side. I feel the screws work much better than brads or staples and the screws are reusable. |

To the right shows the rows of screws driven into the battens. The holes left after the screws are removed are filled with the following coat of epoxy. If fact the epoxy squeezes through to the inside and has to be wipped off and cleaned. | |||||||||||||||||

Following the first layer I covered the second layer with diagonal strips of planking.. These are from all the off-fall from the first and last bottom layer of planking and some of the sides. I had 7 sheets ranging between 1-2 feet wide by eight feet long. This would have been an extreme waste of material if not used, therefore this material was used for the second layer of bottom planking. It looks like a patch-work quilt, but makes a good second layer for bottom planking. So, you ask, how could I have cut the last planks and inserted them in the second layer? I cut them ahead of time and saved the large panels of planking for later. |
