Thomas Birthday Party 2005 |
|
|
|
When I started planning for the boys birthdays, I knew Jamie wanted new Thomas and friends engines and frieght cars. I asked if he wanted a Thomas cake, and predictably he said YES! Then Eric said he wanted a Thomas cake and Thomas engines too. So I asked if they would like to celebrate their birthdays together with one party---and they started jumping up and down excitedly yelling, "yes! yes! yes!"
So it was decided---a joint party with one Thomas cake. Their birthdays are less than 3 weeks apart, and we have combined them before. They actually seem to like it better since then they both get to open presents the same day! LOL (When I was a kid, my mom sometimes combined birthdays for those of us who were born close together---and those are some of my best memories!). Usually, we only invite family and possibly a few close friends (but not the whole kindergarten class of 24 kids). The way we do it, the same people would come for both boys anyway, so this really works well for us. As long as the boys are happy about it, then that is what counts.
We set the day for the party to be the Saturday after Thanksgiving. The grandparents were not able to attend this year, but Truman's sister Becky and her husband and daughter were able to come. I spent the day before making the cake! |

I used a Wilton pan with instructions to bake and decorate this Thomas cake for the boys. it was a pretty big project, but it came out nice and the boys were THRILLED! |

We got the boys a whole bunch of new Thomas and Friends engines and freight cars! I cleared a lot of toys and books and a small desk out of the living room so I could set up the Thomas table I had gotten at a flea market for a bargain! We have generic wooden tracks that the Thomas wooden trains fit on, so we set those up on the table---and the boys went to town playing with all the new Thomas trains! I think you could say that they were in "little boys' aspiring-engineer heaven!" |

My mom---the kids's Grammie---made these cool Thomas PJ's for the boys, and then she mailed them to us so we would have them for the boys' birthdays! What a nice Grammie to have! :)
The boys got a few other things, like some new socks and a movie from Grammie and Grandpa Keeler. The Howard grandparents sent the boys $5 each tucked inside a card. We gave them new coloring books, and a Thomas movie. Their Aunt Becky gave them some new Hot Wheels trucks that do stunts. All in all, it was a great day, and we had a lot of fun! Oh, and the cake was delicious too! :)
