Hypothalamic [Fanfics]

Island City Once upon a time in 1992 or '93 I taped what looked like the hopeful pilot of a possible sci-fi series. Why? Because there was an interesting-looking blond guy who growled like a cougar in the teasers. ^^;; So I watched it, and though there were some, er, quibbles about plot, genetics, etc, the *characters* were all quite interesting. So I made three of my friends watch it, and they agreed that while the writer/producer obviously only remembered vague things from high school biology class, the characters, particularly Michael Mendi and Gregg 23 [whom we mistakenly called Craig 23], were very interesting indeed. ^___^

This led to almost four years of collaborative plotting, rewriting, revamping, timelines, vast amounts of unfinished fics from Dianna, Angela and I, and huge, multigenerational, nigh-imperial fics from Larissa. We argued about the hierarchy of the RCF and the High Council. We tried to map out the City itself. We wondered about global condtions and tried to figure out how to cause O-storms. We even tried to make the genetics of the Recessives, half-Recessives, and the little indicator crystal compatibility thingies work. {Best we came up with was pages-long charts, and much huffing and growling about how it was definitely non-Mendelian and why hadn't I paid more attention in class when we got to population genetics?}

Geek, geek, geek, geek, geek...

All right, but some of the stories we wrote were pretty good, considering. Okay, they weren't completely horrible. I lost most of what little Dianna and I did at that time [she and I literally wrote together, sitting side by side at the compy, composing sentences as one of us typed them in. She was the better typist, btw. And I hadn't yet learned how to link snippets into something longer] because we were writing on an old Amiga and a lot of the old files wouldn't convert over when I got a 'new' [to me] PC. I have most of the hard copies, but not likely to retype all that in!

So, here's what's left. If you want more, you must pester Larissa about it; she's the one with the epics. ^_____^

First Encounters: Our 'premiere' -- introducing our [only somewhat Mary Sueish] characters and establishing our version of the Island City world. Of all we did, this is my favorite -- this is the story all four of us worked on most collaboratively, most completely.

Permanent Quarters: A short fic describing Rhin and Azami moving into their new quarters. Much silliness!
