TAIPALE NOWADAYS

Author at Taipale

Author at Taipale. Photo taken in May 1st 2000. It is place of the former Russian positions at School's wood ("Kansakoulu metsikko"). On the front you can see a lot of spirit and vodka bottles marked as early as January-March 1939. Too much bottles! From the right of them lying hand grenades and remains of leather ammunition. On the bottom of this hole have been found the remines of stove made from used bricks with iron chimney. The half-burned ski's sticks were found among the ash. Besides that in this dug hole the soldier's pot, iron cup, button, a lot of 7,62 ammos and bayonet have been excavated. Their unknown owner left it here before attack and never came back here...

Actually, all that founds are dangerous so they have to be destroyed. The better way to do it is call to the Military sappers. Unfortunately, some things are too small (such as hand grenade, mortar's grenade or just few ammos) so the cheeper and faster just to dig it back right after they were excavated or put it away to the nearest river or lake...

As for human bones, usually they just buried by the founder to the nearest military graveyard if they were belonged to the Russian soldier. If not, they transferred to the Finnish authorities. By the way, as far as I know, one of the lastest remains of two Finnish men at Taipale were found in August 1999...
