Well the main inspirations for this book I draw from real life, and people within my life. The reason this book was started was because of a friend of mine, whom I am glad still to call my friend, and a challenge we both set to each other. We would both write books and give them to each other to read. Unfortunately being the unfaithful person I am I got a wonderful storey pages long full of insight and depth and what I gave was a half hearted attempt that spanned an entirety of two pages. So mainly this is for my friend, Sarah, and I thank you for the challenge. On that note the main inspirations for this book are my friends, so perhaps I should briefly portray who and what each mean to me.

Jason.

Well where to start... Oh, how about here. Okay Jason has been a long standing friend of mine since high school, back even in the blissful years of year eight. He, like me, is a thinker, and at high school they are hard to find. So we somehow came to know each other, I can't even remember why or even when I first met him, though sometimes there the best of relationships. With Jason I have had the most theoretical debates, the most in depth arguments, the most logical of discussions and the greatest of conversations about things of absolute absurdity. Some of my fondest memories of school were with Jason in our political and legal class, though I am sure our classmates thought otherwise. We share many things and that is the reason I think we have remained friends for so long. He is a reserved man and is quite sure of himself and his abilities. Jason is one of the smartest people I know, his grasp of things sometimes astounds and his ideas and the way in which he can express them are quite something. I have spent many a lunch time hunched over a chess board or over a book involved in some kind of argument which is as soon forgotten as it is vain, but then that is the fun of it.

Sarah

Sarah would have to be the person that has had the most profound impact upon my life. She I would have to class as my closest friend, even through the waters in which we've swum. She caught me totally off guard, and I remember quite clearly the shock I felt the first I met her. The light in her eyes betrayed the life within, and although our first meeting ended in debate over an issue of feminism, I have only been drawn closer to her person. Who she is I really can not say, but what she is to me I can venture at. She is a complex person, with many facets that make up her as an individual. If it is one person I can relate to it is Sarah, and is why so often all that is shared between us is silence. I have enjoyed many an enthralling discussion about issues that actually have a purpose, things that actually matter which was something completely unique to me. She is a person of extremes, or so it would seem, though I think a person of variety sounds much better. It was Sarah that showed me levels of human emotion that I thought I could not experience, and hence I owe her a great deal. Sarah is a pleasure to be around, her unique points of view and the sources of knowledge she draws from are both refreshing and challenging. One of the most intelligent people I know my fondest memories lay in the various walks and talks we have shared, albeit deep and meaningful.

Caleb

For some strange reason as I type his name I find myself smiling, and then laughing, with good reason mind. Caleb is indeed a great longstanding friend, and I wont say loyal just to spite the book of names and its reference to dogs. Caleb is a very complex individual, in that people often misjudge or misconceive him, or who he really is. Do I know who Caleb is? Probably not, though I do know who I think Caleb is. Caleb is fun to be around simply because you are able to leave the world behind and not worry about the frivolities of society. Caleb has a huge understanding of people and has a great discernment of character. His friendly nature and capacity to relate to people only add to his ability to slot into any social environment. If Caleb has taught me one thing, which he has not for I have learned many things from him, it is to take life with two sugars. To smile and laugh I refer to, to be able to take life for what it is sometimes, and not to seriously all the time. What have I done with Caleb? A more appropriate question is what haven't I done. From drinking coffee at Henry's in surf gear while dripping wet, to running through the forests in frantic chase of some hysterical wildlife, to laying in an open field watching the lights of heaven strike at the ground. Caleb is more than just a friend but has slipped into family, a brother in more ways than one.
