Why have I chosen the way of Mynbruje? For me, truth is all.
Only in truth are found the answers to the puzzles of the Universe.

MYNBRUJE

IDEALS

Justice, Compasion, Empathy, Truth, Knowledge

TYPICAL APPEARANCE

Mynbruje usually apears as an old man or woman of any race.

COMMON ELEMENTS

Balanced scales, executioner's axe, stars, a comfortable place to rest.

POWERS

Mynbruje can read minds, ease the suffering of others, perceive obscure clues, and travel through the thoughts of Name-givers, leaping from the mind of one to any other within fifty miles.

QUESTORS

The questors of Mynbruje wear simple garments, sometimes peasant garb, to show that they care little for status or prestige. They see truth and justice as the heart of life, and view all else as minor distractions. By asking how a man accused of a crime sees himself and how society sees him, the questors of Mynbruje seek to restore balance to lives and communities, labouring to show criminals the error of their ways, helping society adminster justice compassionately, and clearing the names of those wrongly accused. If a criminal does not realise he has done something wrong, they try to make him understand the criminality of his actions. If society faults someone for something he did not do, they work to clear his name among his fellows.

Mynbruje's questors serve their Passion in many ways. Some act as official judges in citadels, towns, and villages. Others travel throughout Barsaive randomly or along a prescribed route, adjudicating disputes and righting injustices they encounter during their journey. The word of a questor of Mynbruje is considered unimpeachable, and most people will accept his judgement even though he is a stranger. Such questors often travel with other adepts and magicians as protection against those who would seek to evade judgement.

COMMENTARY

Mynbruje stands by the unjustly accused, those the law has passed over, and those misunderstood by their society. He is a busy Passion, for though the Name-givers occupy a special place in the universe, mere mortals are often blind to truth and understanding.

ACTS OF DEVOTION

  • Minor: Ease an accused person's suffering.
  • Major: Reveal a falsehood.
  • Zealous: Prove a criminal's guilt or a suspect's innocence. If circumstances make the questor's task easier, this becomes a minor act of devotion. For example, if a questor seeks to prove an accused person's innocence and the accuser dies before he can be questioned, the questor may assume that the accused is innocent, because someone obviously has something to hide.

QUESTOR POWERS

Increase Perception

Besides perception, the Increase Perception power also improves all abilities, talents, and skills based on Perception.

Perceive Emotion

The Perceive Emotion power allows a questor to detect a person’s strongest emotion and the focus of that emotion. The questor may learn specific information about the target’s emotions by asking leading questions.

Ease Suffering

The Ease Suffering power allows a questor to ease a target’s emotional and physical suffering. The power cannot heal or permanently remove damage, but it stops pain. In the case of magical pain inflicted on a target, the duration of Ease Suffering might outlast the spell, thus protecting the target completely from the magically induced pain. The Ease Suffering power is useful against the pain of Wounds taken during battle, emotional terror caused by Horrors, and emotional attacks such as fear spells.

Talia's note: I've often thought of this as the "Jedi Passion".
