Top 10 Reasons Why You Should Never EVER Live in a Remote Village in Thailand | ||||||||||||
1. You may co-habitate with 5 Tokay lizards (about a foot long each) and a snake. 2. In spite of co-habitating with 5 Tokay lizards and a snake, you may come home for dinner and discover the wall by your bed is now black when once it was white. Further, it may be heaving and undulating. Upon closer inspection, you will discover that the much talked about and feared army ants from tv documentaries have entered your life and your room. 3. Things like salad greens and pasta remain remote and inaccessible. 4. One day you will discover that your favourite food, somtam plaaraa, is made in a dangerous way that causes cancer. In addition to that, you will be the only person who is shocked and disgusted to learn that it also causes liver fluke worms and that you almost certainly have them. 5. You will probably get tired of racist comments and being hooted and hollered at everytime you step outside. 6. You will lose all joy of going outside, anyway, since outside feels much the same as it might feel if you were locked in a car in the middle of summer with the windows rolled up. 7. You will never become completely immune to hungry children. And yet you are relieved to see that they are still here in town begging today. Because you don't much want to think about what has happened to them when they cease to appear. 8. You will dread moving from one place to another. Because people "don't really feel an interest" to get drivers' licenses and yes that is dangerous. 9. You will get tired of "extra judicial killings" when you realize that this is just a clever way to say "murders committed by police officers". 10. You will not enjoy facing the reality that your thinking is rigid and inflexible. You will have to accept that there are things that you can't accept. And so you will feel disappointed in yourself. |
