Mangosteen
After meeting the King of Fruit (Durian), it's time to meet the fruit which Thais hail as the Queen.  Mangosteens have a delightfully sweet taste with a slight tartness.  It is sharp and sweet and fragrant. The juicy white flesh of a mangosteen is protected by a thick skin of dark purple or red-purple.  The fruit is segmented like an orange, and you can tell how many segments the fruit will have by the number of leaves on the top of the mangosteen.
This precious and expensive fruit is thought to revitalise the body and reduce one's body temperature.  The mangosteens arrive at the perfect time to work their magic, coming ripe from late March until September.  Mangosteens are a delicious treat, though fairly expensive in terms of local fruit, as they are difficult to grow and highly prized.  Yummy!
