Life in the Neighbourhood
As you may already know, I am currently living at a tofu production facility in Pakchong, Thailand. Pakchong is a rather small market town about 2-3 hours drive north-east of Bangkok. Our claim to fame is Khao Yai National Park. This enormous nature reserve boasts such animals as the malayan sun bear, guar, tiger and king cobra, to name but a few.  LIfe in town is a little less wild.
Pakchong lies within the Isaan region of Thailand. Development and tourism have not engulfed this region as quickly as other parts of the Kingdom. The result is that traditional customs and culture remain relatively intact in the Isaan area. Isaan is a truly unique region, boasting it's own foods, dialect, music, etc.
I'm finding that Pakchong is a lovely place to lie back and watch the world go by. The pace is slow here; quite a difference from Tokyo! I spend a lot of time on my balcony plotting ways to climb the coconut trees, or in town exploring the outdoor market.
This is the night market. Yummy Thai food! And cheap!
Yes, there's something for everyone here in Pakchong. Ryota seems to have taken a shining to fried worms.  Or are those maggots?
All in all, I would have to say that living in a tofu factory is pretty great. Before I arrived here, I had some doubts about being cast out in the jungle, but it really is nice. It's peaceful and comfortable. Not to mention I'm surrounded by tofu and soy products!
I welcome all of you to stop by and visit me here in Pakchong.. I can't promise you that there is much to do here, but if you are hoping to do nothing for a while, then this is the perfect place!
