Hi! I'm glad you've taken the time to find out a little
about me and my family. My name is Tammy, and I'm 31 years old (no, I don't mind people knowing my age!). I have been married to a wonderful man (Richard) for almost 9 years now. We have two beautiful children (you'll understand if I don't give their names), a boy and a younger girl. They are both in school now, and are quite the handful!
We live in a nice, quiet little town in central Illinois. It's the kind of town where, if you blink, you'll miss it! But we've had seven wonderful years here so far. I enjoy the small-town feeling of community. It makes for a safer, more comfortable environment, and our neighbors help look out for all of us.
My husband, Richard, is an Electronics Engineer. I am currently an at-home mom, taking a respite from the corporate world for a while. When I do work, I am an Administrative Assistant. My husband's job is only 3 days a week, but they are 12-hour days. He gets pretty tired, but we enjoy the days that we have together every week, especially when the kids are in school, and we get some one-to-one time!
I graduated High School in 1987, and have since gone to
college off and on. I really enjoy working with computers, and have taught myself how to write HTML code (believe me, it is an ongoing process!). As you can see by what I've included on this site so far, I like poetry and reading. I am a very avid reader - I can go through a book a day when I have the time. I mainly read romantic time-travel novels - nothing like a little bubble gum for the brain, as my mom says! I also enjoy cooking, so I'm trying to compile some really good recipes to add to my site. I hope to add some new ones soon!
I have a really hyper-active dog. She's a mix of what seems to be a Samoyed and a German Shepherd. She's a very pretty dog, with brown and black fur. I'll have to find a picture of her to put on this page. Her name is Ginger, after my Cocker Spaniel who passed on at the ripe old age of 16, and she's a Valentine's Day baby. She's now 3 years old, and sheds like crazy in the summer! I always say I'm never fully dressed 'til I am covered in dog hair!
My children are wonderful - of course what mother doesn't think so. We are blessed to have an older boy and a younger girl. They are both in school now, which gives me a lot of free time. Right now, my husband and I are working on the website for the kids' school, since they didn't have one yet. It's been a great learning experience, and we hope to complete it soon. I feel strongly that all parents should give a little of their time and talents to their kids' school, when and how they are able. This is just one ministry that we are fortunate to be able to provide to our local school.
Just over a year ago, I finally found a new church home. It had been a long, long struggle to find one that the whole family could enjoy. Our kids got to go to church camp for the first time this past summer - what a great way to get to know the Lord!! I still remember my younger days at church camp, and we are fortunate that our kids got to experience it for themselves. It will give them a lifetime of memories to take with them on their journeys.
The summer of '99 proved to be a difficult one for our daughter. She came down with a major medical problem, and spent most of the summer in the hospital being subjected to more tests, procedures, and surgeries than I care to remember. Unfortunately, her condition is one that is life-long, and she'll be taking medications for it every day for the rest of her life. But we count ourselves blessed that it wasn't something worse, and thank God for the blessing she is in our lives!
Fortunately, our son, who was diagnosed ADHD a few years ago, is showing major improvements! Oh, he still has a hard time concentrating, and homework at our house more closely resembles a battlefield, but he's learning more daily about how to cope with it. He's been off Ritalin since the end of last school year, and is doing remarkably well. Another blessing from God, to be sure! Lord knows I've prayed about it constantly!!
Well, that about does it for now. I hope you have enjoyed your visit with us. Be sure to check back often. We still try to add and change things as we have time. Have a great day (or night!), and I hope you'll join us again soon!!!
NOTE: The drawings down the right hand of the screen were drawn for me by my pen pal from Japan. These "little things" are precious memories from my childhood, and now I can share my treasures with everyone!
