This is my first audio DIY project and I chose the Darling SE amp, designed by Bob Danielak. Though rated power is only 0.75W, the sounds bellies its miniscule power output. Note naked chasis. While a friend promises to get the wooden chasis done by "next week", I think its naked look is more appealing. Excellante ventelation!
Why wax lyrical when pictures tell more...
The Darling project is supposed to be my own baptism of fire into the exciting world of audio DIY. However, it has since grown to a condition well known among the world, called "tube lust", "tubelitis"...
Now I'm into all things tubey, and hopefully in the next few months (or years), there'll be more cool stuffs here.
Parts used...Kiwame resistors, Octave PPT caps, Hammond 125E, Philips electrolytics, locally winded power trans, silver plated copper wire.
The frontline stars... GE JAN 5965, Westinghouse 12AZ7.
The power heroes... Sylvania NOS 1626, RCA 1940's 1626.
Credit goes to
Bob Danielak for bringing SE magic to this cheapskate, Shamsul Bahrin for modified circuit, parts list and VT4C for help along the way.
PS: A very important note of caution. Let your power supply reservoir capacitors discharge fully before you touch anything. Use a multimeter to confirm! I got shocked TWICE because darn supply caps take so darn long to discharge. Your DARLING will be your NIGHTMARE if 250VDC runs through your body!
