Guests who enter the large, thatched roofed hut will immediately notice the cafe's trademark - enormous clusters of bananas hanging above every table.
"Those will be the appetizers," Tam-Tam says. "We invite everyone to help themselves."
But what can the guests do with the banana peels?
"Once a guest is finished eating the banana, they may throw the peel into the aisle," Tam-Tam answers with a grin. "Of course, that is a safety hazard; our Visioneers were quick to point that out. That's why we have a team of island natives patroling the area to retrieve the banana peels. That may sound bizarre, but it provides for a more interesting dining experience."
So, what gave Tam-Tam that crazy idea?
"I recently dined in a restaurant where guests were welcome to throw peanut shells on the floor. At first I thought it was rather rude to do that, but I noticed how much fun people had by making a mess. One of our Assistant Visioneers, Terry Stewart, was there with me and he had the bright idea of banana peels being thrown into the aisles. The next day, Captain of Visioneers, Amanda Stewart, came up with a name for the cafe and asked me my opinion of the idea. Of course, I couldn't refuse!"
Besides its main banana appetizers, the cafe will also offer a plethora of other foods containing bananas including the following: banana splits, banana pudding, banana milkshakes, banana ice cream, banana pie, banana cake, and more; plus many more foods with other tropical fruits. A full menu will be added to the website in the upcoming months!
