WHO...
Anthony moved to HK in 1996 after graduating from the School of Music at the University of British Columbia (UBC) in Vancouver, Canada, where he majored in Music Composition.  He studied serious western music (i.e. classical) composition and a bit of jazz.  His main instrument at that time was the trombone, but he composes on the piano.  He likes straight-ahead jazz (Bill Evans, Count Basie), fusion (Chick Corea), and classical orchestral works with a lot of brass (Stravinsky, Rimsky-Korsakov, Tchaikovsky, Holst).  Traditional, eh?

WHAT HE DOES
He is now a full-time musician, and composes and arranges music in the pop and commercial scene.  He has played in many shows and tours, including David Foster (1993?...not too big of a deal, since both of them are from Vancouver), Jacky Cheung (Snow Wolf Lake '97), Sammi Cheng (World Tour '98), Andy Lau (China Tour '97,'98), Andy Hui (HK Colliseum '98), and Heineken Music Horizons '98, which also involved Boyz II Men and Julian Lennon.

Other memorable "little" gigs include one at Sonny Bono's home in Palm Springs, California where Sophie Lauren also showed up....it was one of those cheezy receptions where nobody really notices the jazz trio.  Another major gig was being the musical director for a Christmas musical in Vancouver, called "Rapunzel", which performed 26 shows in Dec 1995.

His composition portfolio covers a variety of different musical genres...from orchestral to big band jazz, from atonal avant-garde to pop and fusion.  To hear some of his music on mp3. click MUSIC.

Other than for Tangent, he has also written/arranged for the 15th Field Regiment Royal Canadian Artillery Band (yes, one of the Canadian military bands), the HK Philharmonic Symphony (Francis Yip, Nov. 98), Hacken Lee, Zoe Ki-Yeem-Yeem, Leon Lai, Yik Chan, Miriam Yeung Cheen-Wah, E-kin Cheng, and also for several other groups and artists.

His last film scoring project was composing for the movie "Bio-Zombie (Sung Fa Sau Si)" starring Jordan Chan Siu-Chun and Tong Ying-Ying....pretty horrific music!   He has yet to do jingles...

CURRENT PROJECTS
He is currently playing keyboards on Andy Lau's world tour, and Leon Lai's China tour.   He is also arranging a Christmas medley for the HK Philharmonic, and mixing Tangent's and Singal's album.

FAVORITE ALBUMS/MUSIC
Some of his favourite albums/music are:
1. Chick Corea's "Now He Sings, Now He Sobs" album (he also has a transcription of the piano score);
2. Bill Evans' "The Solo Sessions" album volumes 1 and 2;
3. "7th Avenue South" by Dave Weckl;
4. "Firebird" by Stravinsky;
5. "1812 Overture" by Tchaikovsky;
6. "The Planets" by Holst; and
7. Bon Jovi's "Slippery When Wet" album; and for some strange reason,
8. Sammi Cheng's "Can't Let Go", music by Vicky Fung

HOBBIES

Just music?  No.  Anthony LOOOOVES traveling.  He has been on 4 continents, in 15 countries (not including foreign controlled territories such as Macau and former British adminstrated HK and airport stop-overs).  The countries he has visited are Canada (6 provinces), the United States (11 states plus DC), the PR of China (5 provinces plus Beijing, Shanghai and HK), Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Australia (3 states), New Zealand, Germany, Austria, Italy, Switzerland, France, Belgium, and Holland.    He is very lucky that many of these trips involve band/show tours.  (Is the fact that his first flight was at one month old indicative of his seemingly "travel-blessed" career?).

Oh yes, other "hobbies".  He has over 15 pairs of Levi's 501 jeans, all in different colours, covering every colour in the rainbow from red to purple.  He never wears his blue stonewashed 501's except on Tangent shows. His favourite colour is purple, and he would like another pair of purple 501's....waist 31/length 32.  They are hard to find....any tips?

Ahem...by the way, he is still single.......
