Sometimes it is amazing what you can find on television in the wee hours of the morning. This was on the Fox Movie Channel recently in un-edited, letterboxed format in all its cult glory. I was only 18 when it hit theaters in 1970 and never had a chance to see it. It never played at the 'family' theater where I worked as a usher. Later, I became a 'huge' fan of Russ Meyer's work. Needless to say, I was glued to the set when I found it.

An all-girl rock group and their manager head to Los Angeles to make it [and make 'it'] big. Uber-director Meyer pulls out all the stops on this mainstream [for him] Hollywood project. There are some suberb montages in the film that help with exposition but are really just an excuse to get quick cuts of naked chicks and drug use. This film is a sequel in name only to Valley of the Dolls [1967]. It was written by Roger Ebert, the famous film critic, whom Meyer had befriended after Ebert wrote favorable reviews of his films.

This flick has everthing, man! Hot chicks, groovey guys, various gay Hollywood types, ex-Nazi's and sympathizers, hardcore lesbians, acid, pot, and pills mixed with lots of boozing are just the tip of the iceberg. The final sequence features more drug use, a beheading, gun-barrel fellatio and multiple murders capped by a parapalegic's miraculous recovery.
