In one of the few puzzle books I've been able to collect, this clipping from an old newspaper -- alas, unidentified by place or year -- was pasted on the inside back cover.  I love the figure at the right . . . but I don't believe it can be created with the true Stomachion puzzle pieces. What do you see in this figure? I see something very different than the author does, and yet it has spurred me on to begin work on Stomachion Fantastique, still in its very early stages (on the previous page).

4/20/2001 -- Thanks to a suggestion/comment from my sister, I stretched the original Stomachion figure into a rectangle, via the computer.  Below is the result.  It looks nearly identical to the figure above, with the exception of pieces 9 and 13.

I've adjusted pieces 9 and 13 below -- what do you think?  Does it appear to match the somewhat age-distorted drawing above?

5/25/2001 -- I solved the "Son of Stomachion square" shortly after 4/20, but I'm just getting around to putting it here on my page.  Again, thanks to my sister, who gave me the idea of stretching the original Stomachion!  (Incidentally -- there are several square solutions, in the original Stomachion and the Son of!!)
