The Milky Way is our galaxy in which the sun and all of us were born. One of the joys of stargazing is sitting out under a dark sky watching the broad faint glowing bands pass by overhead. Take the time to study the Milky Way. Look for the bands which delicately interweave of obscuring dust clouds and hazy star fields. After observing the Milky Way without any optical aids scan the band with binoculars, stopping to study star rich fields and black-coal nebulas through it. The Milky Way's plane is made up of glowing gas and stars cut by dark dust lanes. The mottled grayish fog is actually billions of faint stars blended together which are too faint for our eyes to separate into individual points. |
