It pits Brazil's amazing soccer geniuses against the bull dog spirit of the Brits. Rivaldo is possibly the most gifted player on the field and is disarmingly nonchalant in his trots around the field. But one supreme pass or a trap and a swivel from his lengthy frame may result in a thunderbolt shot into the top end of the goal post, way past a diving David Seaman. Ronaldo is likely to find Rio Ferdinand a tough and mean marker and this no-nonsense defender could head off 99% of the high balls thrown into the English defence. On the English attack, Owen and Heskey could probe the will of Junior, Roberto Carlos, Lucio and Edmilson. However, I suspect, success for England could come from high balls; free kicks or corner kicks are where England is most dangerous. Brazil's strength is their will to take the fight into England's half and an early English goal may prove to be England's albatross as England has a habit of playing too defensively when they are a goal up. Against a marauding Brazilian strike force of Juninho, Rivaldo, Ronaldo and Denilson, this may be their undoing. The mid field battles between Scholes, Beckham and Butt against Cafu, Giberto Silva, Ronaldinho, Denilson or Juninho may see England having an edge but only just, as Beckham still looks half fit, albeit very dangerous. My bet for a Brazilian win lies with good feeding from Kleberson, if fielded, as his curving past, whilst on a sprint, towards Ronaldo in the game against Denmark shows a skill and vision that is a hallmark of genius. If he can repeat that tomorrow, the game is for Brazil to pick. This game could be won by devine skill which is abundant in the Brazilian team. |
