Year of the Stag, Summer, evening [8/4/03]

Unbelievable. I haven’t written since winter, and summer is nearly past now. I lost track of the days. I’ll probably be back on track when the autumn solstice comes.

But right now I’m kicking myself for not writing more about Aria’s blackouts when I had the chance. What I put down in the winter might not be everything that I really need to know. I fear that, in a way, she may be experiencing them again, or that that other violent person she became while in their throes is starting to come out into her normal personality. I think she may be losing her mind.

I suppose I should give some context. Aria’s sister, Alissa, had come to the city through running away from her home and terrible father to elope with a Traveler. Aria got her away from her new husband and had the chance to bring the wrath of every Traveler clan down on her (they must be closer-knit that the Pfaebinn clan, I suppose). But a divorce was granted through events I don’t understand or remember too well right now, and Alissa then--in some incredible twist--married Hermy. This came just before the whole of the Silver Sword traveled to a fort three days away filled with orcs to help the Jackals by holding a pass from a flanking force. That was a disaster, but, unless I run out of time or energy, I can cover that later. None of the Guild died, though we came close, but the Jackals have been decimated.

But at any rate, we returned to even worse news. NaShae and Kywyn’s son Dakarai, whose growth has been sped by magic used in a foulest way, was kidnapped by her father, whom I’m told is a nobleman of Ennaroth. Now that I think of it, I don’t understand why. NaShae took Amarandios, the brother-in-faith I received the story from earlier today, and Alissa with her to try and get Dakarai back. I don’t know what happened with that, but Alissa was killed by a monster on the way, before they even reached Ennaroth. Her body is back in the city. Aria has been informed; Hermy arrived at the Temple soon after I did, where I was speaking with the cleric who admitted Aria and showed her Alissa’s body. Now I think Aria’s grief, the stress we were under during the past mission (but she was showing signs of strain even then), and the lingering demon or enchantment inside her head has broken her mind. Amarandios and I confronted her in the Iron Wolf, where she was trying to hawk her sword to raise part of the fee of 5,000 gold the Mother’s clergy were going to require for bringing Alissa back to life. She hadn’t even looked into if it would be allowed by the Mother, she forgot the stipulations that surrounded Cousin Natala’s return from the dead, she hasn’t spoken with Hermy that I know of, and she hasn’t considered what Alissa’s own wishes on the matter would be. Amarandios pointed these out to her, saying she was being selfish and overprotective as well, and she flew into a rage, struck him, and stormed out, saying that we were passing judgement on her. That is was up to her and Hermy what was best for Alissa.

The look in her eyes was pure madness, and hate that would make the hardest Demmionite take notice.

Suffice to say, I’m worried.
