The traditional craft cabinetry
Iwayado Tansu originates in Japan's earliest furniture that dates
back to about 1100. Made from carefully selected materials with
the finest skill, Iwayado Tansu cabinetry has a stately yet
graceful
design, which will undoubtedly cause it to be handed down
generation
to generation as a future antique.
In 1979 at the Iwate Prefectural
government's recommendation, The Iwayado Tansu Production
Cooperative
submitted Iwayado Tansu for accreditation in accordance with
the Law Concerning the Promotion of the Traditional Craft
Industries.
After three years of close examination, the furniture's traditional
design, materials, assembly techniques, techniques for
hand-embossed
hardware, and lacquering as a whole were recognized officially
as traditional craftwork by the Ministry of International Trade
and Industry in 1982.
