Documentary/Experimental Filmmaking is an exploration of nonfiction, non-narrative, personal filmmaking.  This beginner’s-level course, offered by the Taos Filmmakers Initiative, will be a hands-on experience where students learn by doing.  The instructor and other students will provide support, feedback and criticism, but most of what each student will learn will be through the process of conceiving, researching, directing, shooting and editing their own projects.  Following the completion of the course, the short video films will receive a TFI-UNM public screening.

Fundamentals of Film Production Design
12 Weeks, Begins September 16, 2003, Tuesdays 6-8 p.m.
The Fundamentals of Film Production Design is designed to introduce students to the process of Production Design both creatively and administratively. Students will learn to read a script to approach a film with a comprehensive creative concept to influence the look of the sets as well as the administrative process to execute them. The question they will follow is what are the ways they can come to understand the aesthetics of filmmaking.

Introduction to Film Genre: The Science Fiction Film
Begins September 15, Mondays 6:30-9:30 p.m.
The study of a film genre " stresses the shared conventions by which large numbers of films are recognized as resembling each other." It emphasizes the subtle (and not so subtle) filmic techniques which alter the way we will experience a film, and examines the cultural assumptions which an audience brings to every film. In this class we’ll view a wide variety of films from the genre known as Science Fiction and see how these films are connected by a system of stylized rules. Over the course of the class students will also become familiar with the basic elements of the genre criticism and how it relates to film theory.
Instructor:  Kelly Clement. Read the Syllabus.
Fundamentals of Producing
12 Weeks, Begins Sept. 18, 2003, Thursdays, 3:30-5:30 p.m.

Instructor:  D.A. Zivkovich. Read the Syllabus.
