FILMMAKERS COLLABORATIVE SYLLABUS page 2 Conflict Resolution: The high-stakes nature and deadline pressures of the filmmaking process can sometimes result in a stressful and contentious environment. Although a collaborative atmosphere will be encouraged and emphasized, creative differences and personality conflicts are occasionally unavoidable. If students are unable to resolve disagreements among themselves, the instructor reserves the right to act as the final decision-making authority. Attendance Policy: Students must attend class regularly and punctually. Excessive absences may result in a student being dropped from the class. It is UNM-Taos policy that a student MAY be dropped by their instructor after three absences. Lab fees are nonrefundable. Grading Policy: Attendance: Not just showing up, but engaging in classroom discussions with thoughtful questions, constructive feedback and helpful suggestions. Also, showing up prepared and on-time on shooting days - 25% Participation/Collaboration: Demonstrating an ability to work well with others in a film-related-environment. Accepting responsibility for one’s role on the project, putting egos aside, and directing all of one’s creative or technical efforts toward the overall good of the project - 25% Final Project (includes final cut and production notebook): When all is said and done, the final projects will evidence a large measure of a student’s growth and value of his/her contributions. Since students will be performing different and perhaps multiple tasks including but not limited directing, acting, writing, production managing, editing, camera, sound, each student will be evaluated on the relative creative or technical merit of one’s assigned duty - 50% There will be no incompletes available for any other reason than severe medical hardship. ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act): Qualified students with disabilities needing appropriate academic adjustments should contact me as soon as possible to ensure your needs are met in a timely manner. Handouts are available in alternative formats upon request. Dropping the course: It is the student’s responsibility to drop a course. The instructor is not required, nor should be expected, to drop a student from the official roster. Do not assume that failing to come to class will result in your being dropped from the course. If a student drops the course, lab fees are nonrefundable. Due Process: If you have any problems in the class that cannot be directly handled by talking with the instructor, the appropriate person to contact is the Academy Head or Katie Mares in UNM Student Services.
