DOCUMENTARY/EXPERIMENTAL FILMMAKING SYLLABUS, page 2

Class Format:
The class is designed as a collective effort where students will be divided into three or four teams (depending on the total number of students).  As part of their lab fees, each team of students will be supplied with a single camcorder and manage their shooting schedules on this shared usage. When a student isn’t producing his/her own video project, he/she will be working in a support position (i.e., camera, sound, editing, etc.) for another student’s project.  Roles and responsibilities will be rotated so that each student gets experience in a different area of video production.  Students are permitted to rent or purchase additional camcorder or nonlinear editing systems for their own use if they feel it’s necessary.  Students must purchase their own mini-DV tapes for shooting (60 minute tapes are available at Walmart for $7).  Students are also responsible for purchasing additional copies of their final project for family, friends, or non-TFI students who helped in the making of the films.

Attendance Policy:
Students must attend class regularly and punctually.  Excessive absences may result in a student being dropped from the class.  It is UNM-Taos policy that a student MAY be dropped by their instructor after three absences.   Lab fees are nonrefundable.

Qualified students with disabilities needing appropriate academic adjustments should contact me as soon as possible to ensure your needs are met in a timely manner. Handouts are available in alternative formats upon request.

Dropping the course:
It is the student’s responsibility to drop a course.  The instructor is not required, nor should be expected, to drop a student from the official roster.  Do not assume that failing to come to class will result in your being dropped from the course.  If a student does drop the class, please note that lab fees are nonrefundable.

Due Process:
If you have any problems in the class that cannot be directly handled by talking with the instructor, the appropriate person to contact is the Academy Head or Katie Mares in UNM Student Services.
