| My fascination and love/love relationship with the soaps began trying to kill a half-hour between love Connection at 1:00 and syndication's best cartoons at 2:00. I heard the words “A tornado is heading for Pine Valley" and have been a second-generation fan of “All My Children” ever since. Is this just a tad strange? Perhaps, but when you consider that daytime TV's most popular characters include a woman previously possessed by the devil, two rapists, a woman who has been married to two generations of men and her husband's brother, been dead, a spirit, Amish, cloned, princess of a never-before-mentioned island nation, time-traveler, etc. and Erica Kane, them maybe I'm onto something. Besides, far be it for me to explain sociology or psychology. At any rate, this was 1994 when I also began watching “Guiding Light” and have hardly missed any episode since. Through the years I have also enjoyed “One Life to Live,” “Another World,” “Loving/The City,” OLTL again, “Sunset Beach,” then “One Life to Live” yet again (shouldn't that be Re-Live, no?) and most recently "Passions," "Port Charles" and “General Hospital” (my mom, boss and I invested in a TV/radio for work). 1994 was also the year I first created the characters of Tapestry. Of course, this is offline and is called The One and Only, but to this day, the characters like Rachel, Greg, Gina, Hope, Carrie (Hunter on Tapestry) whose stories continue offline also remain important to me. I only recently discovered the world of online soaps and was immediately impressed by the effort of the producers. My personal favorites are Footprints because it is crisp, well written, very soapy and character driven and Customer Service which is quite amusing. I don't know how long I will produce Tapestry, though I hope to do it for a long time since I would love the readers to meet jaded Karla Cassle, the confused, wealthy Normandys, hard-luck heroine Maybelline Hoffman and other characters that I have grown to love but are not essential right now. But about me...) I am a 19 year old Cuban-American from Miami and am currently an English Literature major at Barry University. My favorite books include Crime and Punishment (seriously), The Prozac classic The Bell Jar, Wide Sargasso Sea, The Scarlet Letter and anything by playwright Tennessee Williams. I enjoy acting, writing of course, movies, dancing, socializing, a good drink (sometimes simultaneously) and too many more things to sum up in one sentence. I hope you enjoy Tapestry and hope that you really get to know these people that have been years in the making. |
