| So, who is Captain Jack Sparrow? While some call him Smith (Smithy, if you like), but then again, perhaps he knew they wouldn't believe the truth, even if he told them. Well, aside from the Captain of the Black Pearl (no, he's not the one so evil that hell itself spat 'im back out... that's the other guy), no one knows much about him. He's most definitely a pirate, and the best one I've ever seen at that, having sacked an entire port without firing a shot, disappeared from under the eyes of several guards, impersonated an officer of the Spanish Royal Navy (and let's not forget a cleric of the Church of England!), and of course, he just has that look about him, so even when he rescues the governor's daughter from certain drowning, their response is: "Shoot him!" We all knew they'd warm up to him. After all, it's possible to be a pirate AND a good man (though certain mutineers with monkeys need a lesson or two...), and perhaps on the rare occasion pursuing the right course demands an act of piracy, piracy itself can be the right choice. |
