Gotham
2/21/06
- I thought this up after reading a foreward that spelled out how Gotham City and New York City were one and the same. Well duh.
Tuppence a bag...
- I just thought about this one day while thinking about ducks.
- The title is from the song in Mary Poppins about feeding the birds.
- I didn't want to copy the look of another online comic strip, but it was too hard not to.
Solidarity
2/24/06
- I did this one as kind of a gift for my friend Gary. It's about one of his hobbies, creating Battle Beasts.
- It's also about getting back at his brother for telling lies.
- The character designs are all his, I'm just a guest artist with my own take on it.
- Fitting that one of my best works would feature something I know nothing about.
Justice
3/9/06
- I probably heard this phrase sometime before I drew this, but here it is.
- Personally, I really like this one. It reminds me of the great Gary Larson style
.
Vagaries
3/8/06
- Sadly, this is a metaphor of real life.
Spectator Sport
3/25/06
- I have no idea whatsoever how this one came about. All I remember is trying to think of a new one, but I don't remember the thought process for this one.
- It does mark the first time I used my new artist signature.
Assault
4/5/06
- I think this is my first stab at topical humor.
- The 3rd weapon is Samson's donkey jaw.
- I replaced a police baton with the jaw and a sword with the mace.
- I chickened out and added an antenna to the Razr phone to make it look more like a cell. In retrospect, I think it looks more like an ordinary cordless phone now.
Sloth Punks
4/27/06
- This came about during my chats with Gary.
- We have the same fascination with weird animals as Gary Larson had with cows.
- In case you didn't get it, the sloth is dissing the tree.
When a sloth falls
4/28/06
- This is drawn by Gary.
- This came from the same conversation that resulted in my "sloth punks" cartoon.
- We both thought they were both hilarious, and they both became much less so during our drawing processes.
- The gag is that sloths are even slow at falling down, thus a mouse couple could seek refuge from the sun under it during its fall for an indeterminate amount of time.
- Gary gave me the drawing and I just enlarged the dialog, added the title, and drew the foliage and bird's nest on the sloth to further get the message across.
- I actually envisioned a multi-panel cartoon where several forest animals would seek shelter under the falling sloth.
- Gary was originally going to use ladybugs, but went with the fieldmice to show more character.
