I will ask my parents for more information. I believe that she was my cousin. She lead a very rough life and was shot by a jealous boyfriend.

(Response)I recently got all the information on my family tree about my Calhoun ancestory. Can you give me the address for the Calhoun site, also, Lisa never e-mailed me. I have a new e-mail address now. I want more information about her Mother, so I can try and help her find her family. Please get this e-mail address to her. I am sure if I can't find out this information that she needs, someone in my family can. I have now traced my family back over seven generations.

I am a descendant of Dougald Calhoun (perhaps the same as McDougle Colquhoun and McDougald Calloway/Martin) and Anna Maria Martin. I just this week started working on our family at the LDS Library in Salt Lake City but have become intrigued and want to know more. I have several possible suggestions fro who Dougald's father may have been. I am Dougald's great-great grand daughter. Eugene Clayton Calhoun born in Perry is my grandfather, Ashley B. Calhoun is my father and John Caldwell Calhoun (not the same as the VP) was my great grandfather. Send me more info on Dougald please. I've found him in Florida censuses but don't know when he came to Florida. Our family always said he was born in Scotland the census says he was born in NC. Does anyone know where? Thanks. ACalhoun

12. My father's name was Denton Calhoun from Hungerford Texas, his father was Henry and his mother was Ceawilla Meyers daughter of Philip Meyers. Frank Calhoun was the father of Henry Calhoun and 14 other children. He wasn't old enough to be John C's half brother. His half brother's name might Have been "Calvin or something like that. My great grand parents never lived as adults in slavery. Virginia is the Original state of birth. This is all I have on my Calhoun geneology. Searching for relatives.

(Response) (Email) diannals@hotmail.com
I am replying to number 12. My family was from Texas, but no for sure. Is their any Calhouns that move to California. Aulcy is my grandfather.

(Response) Yes there are Calhouns in California from Hungerfor Texas. They are: John C. Calhoun son of Henry and Ceawilla Calhoun. Everett, Denton, Thelma, Barbara, Mary, William and Margaret Calhoun are Children of Denton - all live in the Los Angeles Area.

(Response) My Email: Carrme@email.lacc.cc.ca.us
Number 12 was of interest to me. There are also Calhouns in Oakland/San Francisco, San Diego and Houston Texas. The majority of them still reside in Houston Texas. Cewilla Calhoun on Lingonberry Street has more informaiton on the family history. I was old that we migrated from Virginia durnig the Civil War. We settled in Texas when it was a territory. La Grange County was the original home of the Frank Calhoun Clan. Offspring of Calvin Calhoun, half-brother to John C. Calhoun (vice presidnet of the U.S.A. My aunt said that we walked from Virginia to Texas. My Great Grandfather is in the Wharton Count Museum in Wharton Texas, as a founder of Wharton Texas. Mount Pleasant Texas is also a place grandpaw used to talk about. It's a possibility that Lena Horn (the singer/actress) is related to us from what I read in her autobiography. We have been try to search our family roots for many years. Any help you could lend would be appreciated.

My lenage began with Calvin Calhoun, father of Frank, Henry, William, Mary, Nancy, Maggie, Minnie, Lou Ella, James, and Farris. There were a few more, because there were 14 of them. Many were deceased before I was born. He ry was my grandfather, and my father was Denton. Frank Senior was one of the founders of Wharton, Texas. I am told by my father's sister Cewilla, (who resides in Houston Texas) that our great grandfather was the half-brother of John C. Calhoun vice president of U.S.A. He migrated to LaGrange Texas during the Civil war. I was told that my ancestors walked from Virginia to Texas. There are Calhouns from our family who live in Oakland California, San Diego California, Los Angeles California and Houston Texas . From reading Lena Horn's Autobiography, it's a possibility that she is also from our roots. We are interested in any information which will help up complete our geneaology.

(Response) (Email) ccalhoun44@aol.com
I am aware of a book by Lena Horne's daughter, Gail Lumnet Bunkley, that traces Lena's roots to Dr. Andrew calhoun. Dr. Calhoun was a cousin to John C. Calhoun, the VP. Dr. Calhoun was from Coweta County, Newan, Ga. The book was given to my daughter, because my daughter looks like Lena's aunt, and as you would know it, we are Calhouns.

18. I am looking for the ancestry of my father. Walter Franklin Calhoun. He was born August 26, 1904 and died August 22, 1984. He married Mildred Dreessen in 1939. He was married before that but I don't know anything about that marriage. His mother was Nanny Elizabeth and father James Morgan Calhoun. They lived in Checotah, Oklahoma. He had brothers Ray( I think he spelled his name Calhoon) from Oklahoma, , Bill and his wife Vina from Bakersfield, California, Jack & Henry. Sisters, Sally, Jewell & Frona. I think there were more brothers or sisters.
I think at one time his parents lived in Texas.

(Response) Hello Cousin:
Greetings from the California branch of the family. Walter Calhoun was my uncle even though we spell it Calhoon. We are researching the same family. James Morgan (I thought it possibly Martin) was born in Alabama in Jan 1959. His parents, unknown, were also born in Alabama. Nanny (Nannie on the Census) was born in Texas Feb 1870, and her parents in Alabama. They must have been married about 1884 in TX because the first son Thomas W. was born Dec 1884. Other sons born in TX were John H. (your Henry?) Jun 1888 and Robert J. Mar 1890. Sopronia A.(Frona) was born in Jun 1886, and Sarah A. (Sally?) in Aug 1895 both in TX. The family must have moved to the Checotah area, where they appear in the 1900 Census, about 1898 because Nora M. was born in the Creek Nation in May 1898. Nora must have died because she is not in the 1910 Census. Other children born in OK: William L. 1902, Walter F., James M. (my father)Jul 1907, Ellis Ray 1909, and Jewell about 1912. I have not been able to find James Morgan in the 1860 AL Census nor in AL, MS, LA, GA, KY, SC or TX in the 1980 Census, but I am still trying. Do you know Nanny's maiden name or where she was from in TX? I hope this is helpful and that we might share our information. Bob Calhoon

Calhoun family born and raised in Port Royal, Pennsylvania Hello...my name is Sue Calhoun Durham. My father Gerald Scott Calhoun, still living at 85 is the son of Victor Harry Calhoun as we have known him born March 24, 1874 in Port Royal PA to John Calhoun and Eliza Wilson Calhoun. We know nothing about Victor or Harry's parents or family. My grandfather was involved with placing telephone lines across Canada and the U.S. and he settled with his first family in Portland, Oregon. His first wife was Eva Oyler Calhoun. His first son Kenneth was born in Cleveland, Ohio on January 2, 1900 and his sister Katherine or Catherine was born in 1902 in Ohio also. The third daughter Thelma was born in New York somewhere in 1904. My father knew nothing about his father's first family and never heard anything about his grandparents or aunts and uncles. I am seeking any information someone may have on this family. In my research I have found a family I keep coming back to as possible ancestors. They are all descended from John C. Calhoun who was married to a Peggy Ann Dill or Jean Dill. I can only assume my grandfather's father John had to have been born around 1850 plus or minus a few years. Other possibilities fall within that family as Armstrong Calhoun had a son named John born the same year he died in 1850...His wife was Abigail Hench Calhoun. Another possibility is that John C. Calhoun had many children, one being John Dill Calhoun and another John C. Calhoun Jr. I believe. If anyone at all in Pennsylvania is related to these family I would appreciate some information to give to my father and the years are going quickly for him. My e-mail address is tfdurham@home.com. I am a resident of Portland, Oregon as is my father. My father Gerald is the son of Victor Harry Calhoun and Edith Grace Brundage Calhoun...Victor Harry was 21 years older than her when they met in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Victor Harry died In Portland, Oregon on November 15, 1952 when I was six years old. He was 74 years in 1952. Any assistances at all would be appreciated.

73. Since I wrote the original e-mail message I have found different information about the names of my grandfather Victor's parents. The names I listed were on his death certificate but on his application for Social Security his parents are listed as Wilson Calhoun and Hannah Jane Darrh. I had kept coming back to this family because all of them were from Port Royal, PA...now I realize they were actually his parents. His name was probably Harry Vanana at birth according to the children listed under Wilson Calhoun through the Mormon Church information. I would very much like to know anything you could find about the Wilson Calhoun family when they lived in Port Royal...and perhaps there may be family still living there are nearby. According to the information I found he had brothers named Leclerc, Anson, Duverney and three sisters but two died very young...but Berniece married a man named Wharton. Wilson was the son of Armstrong who was the son of John C. Calhoun...I would dearly love to find the roots of this entire family and where John C. Calhoun came from originally. Any help will be appreciated....sorry for being so wordy...Sue Durham, Portland, Oregon -

After Looking at your site which is great I am wondering if youare or have any info on the Colquhouns that cam into NC in the late 1700's My ancestor is Archibald Colquhoun he married Catherine McLaughlin and finally settled in the Clio SC area his children were John C. Calhoun who married Aminto Bristow, Alexander Calhoun who married margaret and Duncan Calhoun , Now what is confusing is that there were 2 Archibald Colquhoun in NC at he saame time and in the same areas one supposidely came to NC with 3 brothers and I think that this is the Archibald Colquhoun buried in Ga. but like I say I find nothing on My Archibald other than a ships manifest and info from Clio S.C. so I am still onfused There is a book written in the 1950's on the Colquhoun/Calhoun family that list the Calhouns in NC , Ga, and Ala. but it is based on word of mouth info and not facts, Thanks I am still confused , If you have any info on this family contact me at wade@sccoast.net.

You might get in touch with the family of the late Calhoun Whitham from Aiken, South Carolina. He was a 'lateral' descendant of John C. Calhoun and his widow lives in Aiken.

Comments = I am researching my husbands family. His gggrandfather was Samuel CALHOUN, who immigrated from Scotland or Ireland. I have found him on the 1870 Georgia census and the 1880 Arkansas census. On the GA census he says he was born in Ireland and the ARK census says he was born in Scotland. I know they are one and same person, because of other members in the household. Is anyone searching this Samuel CALHOUN? Please e-mail me at amaranto_1944@yahoo.com and I will be willing to share my info. Thanks.

89. My great grandma is Mray calhoun is she related to John C. calhoun?

Email = rsquared7@comcast.netComments = James McCoy Calhoun and his wife Elfair Metts had 13 children, one of which was Mary Elizabeth born April 15, 1848 but died as an infant on Oct. 22, 1849 so she could not be your relative. Another of their children, James Wright Calhoun married Louise Adams on Nov. 4, 1866 and they had a daughter named Mary Ellen who was probably born in the late 1860's, probably in Miller County GA. I don't know any more about Mary Ellen.
