The Autopsy | ||||||
The autopsy stated that the "manner of death was homicide" caused by "multiple blunt force injuries." (More about this later.) Some of the injuries referred to in the autopsy included 'bruising' on the child's back. Tasha explained to her attorneys that Bryan IV had what is called Mongolian Birth Spots. Definition, in part: "...various shapes and sizes; usually blue-green in color." These Mongolian Spots were documented in his medical records. The 2 week old baby that Tasha had just given birth to had them. The children's father, Bryan III, also has or had them. None of this was brought to the attention of the court, nor were the medical records brought into evidence. It was left to the jury that all those spots were bruises. Excerpt from the autopsy: "RESPIRATORY SYSTEM: The 69.3 gram right and 60.9 gram left lungs are atelectatic. The pleural surfaces are a variegated very pale pink to darker lavender in the more dependent zone. On the posterior surface of the upper lobe of the right lung are two small 4 to 5 mm zones of dark purple hemorrhage. The pulmonary arterial tree is free of lesion. The bronchial tree contains thick mucous. On section the parenchyma is collapses a variegated pale gray-pink to dark lavender." What our experts have told us is that all of this means that Bryan IV was having a severe asthma attack. A child's lungs should not be anything but pink. 'Atelectatic' means his brain was not getting enough oxygen. It should also be noted, at this point, that all of Bryan IV's organs were harvested for transplant, except his lungs, as they were not 'usable'. |
