Why does the Australian government refuse to act on these obvious criminal acts? If the Australian government did acknowledge that the Mandaeans are actively persecuted against in these camps, then the Australian government would have to acknowledge these actions of persecution also happen in Iraq or Iran. In doing this, the Australian government would then lose their claim that the Mandaeans are not persecuted. The Australian government is putting incredible pressure upon the Iranian Mandaeans, especially, to return to Iran, since they cannot force the Mandaeans to return to Iran unless voluntarily. The Australian is doing this even if it means that all the men, women, and children, will be executed upon returning. Acts that being committed against the Mandaeans to force them to return are: Strip searches when going from one section of the camp to another— includes food and sports area – this includes young children and women Confined to small spaces Drugged so they cannot function or be alert enough to fight for their rights Denied outside impute, newspapers, photos of newborn children, any photos taken inside for the last 3 years Denied letters, food, and phones for violating "rules" such as not saying "please" to A.C.M. guards Denied schools and education Cameras are trained on everything they say or do including so-called private areas (i.e. bathrooms) Parental rights have been taken away—parents have no rights to protect a child who can be punished at whim by the A.C.M. What effect has the lost of humanity and dignity had on the Mandaean people? The man, who wrote FREEDOM in blood, is still cutting his arm and is now hospitalized. Grown men and women have aged considerably beyond their years. Children are being born in captivity where photos are not allowed and there are no memories to keep. Children have tried committing suicide. Men and women are being kept on tranquilizers to keep them passive very much like what is done to wild animals in cages. Some children have never seen a flower and many believe that this horrible existence is normal life. The devastating effects go on and on. This is the greatest challenge facing the Mandaeans as a whole today. The government knowing these people are part of a small group that will not be able to gain enough support to pressure anyone into looking at them. But the Australian government has bitten off more than it can chew. The Mandaeans worldwide and many Mandaean supporters are working feverishly on behalf of the Mandaeans in detention.
