North Dakota is my homestate. I was born in Jamestown, North Dakota (home of the World's Largest Buffalo) and lived on a farm near Cleveland with my family for about 20 years. Even though the graphic theme of this website is ranch style, the farm I grew up on was not a ranch; it was a grain farm. For the last few of those years, I attended Dakota Adventist Academy (grades 9-12), Southern Adventist University and Union College; but I still returned to the farm for vacations.
I cannot think of a better place to grow up. The prairie is so peaceful. Most people think that the prairie is nothing but flat land; they are extremely mistaken. The central part of North Dakota is rolling hills (maybe mounds is more like it, but it is definitely not flat!!) and the western part is the Badlands, which contains plateaus and larger hills. Fall is the most beautiful time of the year on the prairie. All of the farmers fields are turning colors. Wheat and barley are truly "amber waves of grain" and the color contrasts with the small sloughs (pronounced sloo; they're ponds) and green grass in the ditches. It is definitely a beautiful time of year. Growing up on my parents farm provided many adventures--riding in the tractor with Dad, cooking and gardening with mom, playing with my two brothers. The farm machinery was extremely intriguing. The combines, tractors, swathers and more. I used to love sitting inside the middle of the big tires when the tractors were parked. Those were the days. . .
