Directions for making your own Time Capsule |
Items needed: 1 plastic container with a lid 1 disposable camera 1 floppy disk 1 journal 2 copies of the questionaire (one blank) anything else you'd like to put in it |
Directions: The purpose of this time capsule is to leave something behind for posterity to show who you were, who you are, and how you grow as a person. It will be made up of things that you would want other people to know about you a long time from now. You should fill out the questionaire as honestly and as detailed as possible. Use the camera to take pictures of things you want to remember or think is funny or important or pretty or even ugly. Use the floppy disk to save pictures or articles or whatever interest you from the internet. Even if it's a picture you paint on the computer or something you write on wordpad, maybe a poem. Use the journal to log your daily activities and thoughts for a whole month, wherever you are. Write it down even if you think it's boring or stupid. Nothing is mediocre. Stick with it every day. The important thing is to decide a definite date to start on this and stick with it for a month. Write down the date that you start and finish on the form. Also write down what date you bury the capsule if it's different from the date you finish. Also write down the date you plan to dig it up. (Remember to write it on your calendar so you don't forget) It needs to be at least a year. You can make it 2 or 3 or whatever, though. When you dig it up, complete the second questionaire that looks just like the first one you filled out. Compare how much different your answers are now to what they were then. How much have youchanged? How much are you the same? Save the whole capsule and its contents to show your kids later on and have them do the same thing. Click here to go to the questionaire. Remember to print 2 copies. I came up with this idea for my stepson. Let me know if you try it and what you think, or if you have any creative ideas to add to it. |
