Old man in the Dole Office. (Welfare Office) I met an old man and he spoke with me, he told me of the War. He talked of pain, friends lost and the death he saw. Then he prayed for no more.
He'd felt so proud as they marched away, leaving their loves behind. And had no idea of the price they would pay; how they were so blind.
The old man he just cried and cried he said his friend was dead. Killed as they stood side by side, and now he cradled the head.
The people in the dole office, they could not know why the old man and I sat down and cried. Well, you could say they had died.
Old man I guess has passed away, leaving his thoughts behind, "We cannot think of war today, we must have peace in our minds". - written in 1980. |
