The Big Easy

Rules and Regulations for Play

Revised: 04 July 2004

1.The Moderating Board (MB)

A) The MB shall consist of up to 5 members of The Big Easy.

B) Each member shall be considered either senior or junior members. Senior members shall have the ability to vote on decisions affecting the game. Junior members serve as tie-breaking votes for MB decisions and may be appointed to Senior status should a Senior member step down. Should that occur, the MB shall convene to appoint a new Junior Moderator.

C) Roles within the MB:
New Member Intake
Ombudsman (member concerns)
Public Relations
Rules/Regulations
Junior Member (Tie-breaker, Monitors frequency of posting activity)

D) The MB convenes a minimum of once per week. Moderators are expected to let fellow members of the board know if they'll miss the regularly scheduled meeting. Three unscheduled misses in a row may lead to removal from the MB.

E) In order to vote on an issue, the MB must have quorum (50% plus 1). Moderators may vote by proxy ballot. The presence of the Junior Moderator does count towards quorum, but the Junior Moderator only votes if a tie-break is needed.

F) Emergency meetings of the MB must be called 8 hours in advance, unless all Moderators are online at the time and feel comfortable meeting. This allows all Moderators the opportunity to address important concerns.

2.Posting Requirements for Members of The Big Easy

A) Each character must post a minimum of once every 7 days. Exceptions to this rule (i.e. extended absence for a Mundane) must be approved by the MB. If a character falls behind in his/her posts, the Junior Moderator will contact the Mundane.

B) Non-Journal Entries

Mundanes are asked to remember that TBE is a journal-based game.  Non-Journal Entries are not forbidden; however, they are also not encouraged.  It is preferred that every entry contain at least some journal or diary type entry.  Non-Journal Entries will not count toward a character's minimum posting requirement.  In order for a post to count toward the minimum posting requirement, it must contain some journal-style entry.  Questions on this topic should be directed to the MB.

3.Number of Characters Each Mundane May Play

Each Mundane may play up to 3 characters. Requests to play more than 3 characters must be approved by the MB.

4.Consultation Regarding Character Action

A) Mundanes should post an entry to the Out Of Character (OOC) community when they would like to suggest a plot twist that will affect other characters.

B) Mundanes should also consult the OOC before using a prop/situation that another Mundane has created (ex. If a magick student finds a talisman, ask that Mundane before involving the talisman in your own plot).

C) Mundanes absolutely must consult the MB before launching a plot that dramatically alters existing storylines.

5.Plagiarism

Written passages, characters, or ideas taken directly from other sources should include citations which give credit where it is due! (ex. The concept of the Vampire Slayer, as well as the Scoobies, is the property of Joss Whedon. This is reflected on TBE's user information page!)

6.Personal Life vs. Roleplay

Mundanes are expected to keep personal drama out of TBE.  If personal drama overflows into TBE and disrupts the game, the MB reserves the right to take whatever action is appropriate.

7. New Characters

A) New Slayers in Training may be approved by the Moderator in charge of New Member Intake. Other canons and new characters must be approved by the MB.

B) New players have a standard 30-day probation period, in which they will be assessed for their ability to function within the storyline as well as follow the Rules and Regulations of TBE. After the 30-day period, the MB will convene to decide on player continuance.

8. Mundane or Moderator Reassessment

A) If, at any point, a Mundane or Moderator is not acting within the Rules and Regulations of TBE, the MB may convene to discuss interventions and continuance.

B) If, in the opinion of the MB, a canon-character Mundane is running their character too far OOC for that character, the MB will intervene with that Mundane.  If intervention over a thirty-day period does not resolve the situation, further action (up to and including finding a new Mundane) may be taken at the discretion of the MB.

9. The Continuing Buffyverse

TBE's connection with Angel and other possible spin-offs ended with Buffy the Vampire Slayer's final episode (Season 7, "Chosen"). Therefore, TBE storylines do not need to follow those of Angel of other spin-offs.

10. Changes to the Rules and Regulations

Any Mundane or Moderator may suggest possible changes to the Rules and Regulations by contacting a member of the MB, which will then vote on the suggestions. The MB will communicate rule changes and other concerns to the rest of the cast through OOC community entries.

11. NC-17 Roleplay and the Law

A)The age of sexual consent in Louisiana (where this game is set) is 18. Therefore, all characters must be at least eighteen years of age to be having the sex.

B)This game is currently R-Rated.  This means that NC-17 scenes must not be posted to the main community board.  If Mundanes choose to engage in such roleplay and post it on their private character journals, such postings must be behind a LJ cut and must be clearly marked NC-17.

C)The age of consent on the Internet is generally accepted as eighteen.  The legal age for the possession of pornographic/erotic materials in the United States is eighteen.  Therefore, all players absolutely must be over 18 years of age to be involved in any explicit roleplay involving TBE characters.

D) There are no exceptions to any rules involving NC-17 roleplay whatsoever.

Any questions regarding any of these rules should be directed to the MB.
