Tamara B. Latham is a widely read Poet,  songwriter and  R&D Chemist, who is originally from Brisbane, Australia, but  currently resides in Brentwood, TN. She has lived in New York, Rhode Island, New Jersey and Connecticut, where she was employed for nineteen years as a Research and Development Chemist,
(US PATENT #5,262,537) -  cancer
anti-emetic.

She  has numerous publications in Chemistry (internal and external), including one on which she was co-author with Dr. Vidyadhar Paradkar that appeared in" The Journal of Heterocyclic Chemistry, 12/93, pgs. 1497-1500, entitled "Reaction of B-Keto Ethyleneacetals with Hyroxylamine:
A Correction".
The syntheses and reports that were carried out  by Tamara and Dr. Paradkar  proved the Russian scientific publication to be incorrect..

She has done pioneer research on Neuromuscular Blocking Drugs, NOS Inhibitors, Serotonin Receptor Antagonists, Organo-Phosphorus compounds, as well as drugs for diabetes
and obesity.  She has also worked  at
Sloan-Kettering Cancer Research Institute,  in the cyclotron "hot cell" on Fluorine 18 positron emitters for PET scanning. Tamara also performed the initial synthesis of  B-methylene-D-L-aspartate, a suicide inhibitor of aspartate aminotransferase, for Dr. Arthur Cooper of Cornell Medical.

Tamara  attended University of Rhode Island, Long Island University and York College (CUNY). She acquired a BS degree in Chemistry from York College, completed  graduate courses in Advanced Organic Chemistry and Advanced Syntheses  at Queens College, (CUNY), followed by  Medicinal Chemistry  at Drew University., Madison,  N.J.

Tamara's poetry has been featured on Poetry Today, "WRTN 93.5 FM, a radio station from New York hosted by Florence Henderson.   She  is a member of the International Poetry Hall of Fame, where her poetry exhibit with sound is currently being showcased.  Further, Tamara  is a Vietnam Veteran (US Navy WAVES) and  received the Amos Alonzo Stagg Award while in the Navy.

Tamara has done several readings at the Milford Fine Arts Council, Milford, CT and Barnes and Noble, and has taught two poetry classes at Ansonia Middle School, Ansonia, CT.

The advice she  extends to people in gerneral is  "Don't spend a lifetime waiting for opportunity to knock;  but rather, make your own opportunities."

plowing through the global tracks
of time

compassing
a techno-plastic world
whose people
ants with laptops
following the Dow
on mobile phones

stop only momentarily
to flash
a glacial smile.
