Approaching the Tavern
Geograpical Location: Northwestern Aethe (a large continent/country in Ayenee's western hemisphere)
Outside: If one should approach from the north, he would be approaching from the populous main districts of Espyn County; these begin to thin out into forestry perhaps a half mile prior to the point at which one reaches the Sanau River. Endlessly long from this vantage, it is itself also quite wide, boasting at least another mile and a half which one must traverse over a wooden bridge, at least at this specific crossing. Not particularly sturdy in appearance, it holds most travellers themselves without trouble but will creak noticably under the weight of a considerable man and beast. Weirdly, it protests much yet never seems to let a traveller or his luggage fall through. Along the river grow flowers large, lush and vibrant, often in the form of rose vines which fail to fully oppress the surrounding trees, yet also in the form of fragrant lilac and lavender, elegant white lily and other breathtaking flowers often not expected in this part of the world. More queer still is that these bloom ever in spite of season, following only rhythms of opening and closing with the light, and none of demise. It is rumored that the gods had at one point blessed this area of the river. Should one approach from any other direction (and expect to come right upon the establishment), it would be along paths long ago cut by many a traveller, eager either to get to Espyn or the lands beyond.
The Building and Stables: The Bucket of Blood itself is a large structure made of smooth, hard, red mahogany. Recently added is a similarly constructed porch, the stairs leading up it handsomely railed, only to lead almost immediately into an equally short set descending that one might reach the doors. These reach all the way down to the ground and are incredibly heavy; they also will not open unless one depresses the ornate silver lever which holds the latch-lock in place before pushing.[PS: Yes, that is actual silver. If your character type is injured by silver, he'll be injured by touching that with a bare hand.] The porch is outfitted with an overhang of a lighter wood, two rocking chairs, and a porch swing whose back describes an ingenious set of angel wings, beautiful in the same breath as they offer adequate back support; perfect for sitting and looking out over the perpetually lush surroundings of the tavern. The stables are off to the right side and similarly designed as the rest. They are tended to by a young, blond-headed boy who asks a fee of a couple gold to feed and keep one's horse per night (though if, for whatever reason, one is planning on living within for a long while, the fee will be somewhat discounted; five gold a week, fifteen gold a month). Lining the east and left outer walls are clean water troughs and hitching posts which can be used free of charge. |
