WE WOULD SEE JESUS
Sermon of TBOLF by Pr. Rufus Ashiedu
(Text: John 12: 20—21)
The Christian life is the only real, sublime, powerful and eternally rewarding life that ever can be lived here on earth. Real, in the sense that it deals with the unseen forces which dictate all that we see — whatever problems that we face daily in our lives, we recognize the real reasons for them and the real solutions to them — i.e. the unseen hands and forces of God at play. Sublime in the quality of character it offers as manifested by the fruit of the Spirit — no life can ever be so beautiful. Powerful m that it places at your disposal, the power/authority of God. Above all, it secures eternity for us which no movement or religion or group can offer (see John 3:16).
Unfortunately, how the fullness of the Christian life eludes many of us Christians today. Why? Many may be in the church, but have not yet experienced an encounter with the giver of this life — Jesus Christ. Many lead ordinary lives devoid of its power, some are unfortunately under the influence of evil spirits, many more are just in the crowd and unsure of their eternal destiny.
But Jesus Christ will be passing our ways today. May we pray that our eyes be opened to behold him so that the very foundation of our Christian experiences will be laid. If you want to enjoy the fullness of the Christian life, then you must have an encounter with Jesus. To have the encounter, you must SEE Jesus. When you do, you will experience a great transformation that will translate your Christian experiences from an ordinary one to an enriching delight.
The desire of the Greek converts: In John 12: 20 — 21, we see the desire expressed by some Grecians who had been converted to the Jewish religion. They were attending the Passover feast when they heard of Lazarus who was raised from death by Jesus. Whilst many ordinary people flocked around in wonder at the sight of the miracle —without necessarily having an encounter with Jesus, these Greeks pwposed in their hearts that they wanted an encounter with the life giver. Sir, we would see Jesus, they requested of Phillip. They were not going to be carried away with the crowd, but had a deep yearning — an encounter with Jesus. Is this your desire today? Step out of the crowd beloved brethren, seek to see and you will be glad you did.
If you see Jesus. you will never remain the same: No man ever had an encounter with Jesus and remained the same. In Luke 22: 54—62, Peter had denied Christ thrice and was now ready to quit the faith. But thank God, he saw Jesus in the midst of his failures, cried out for help and he was delivered. Acts 26: 13 — 29 contains the experience of Paul, after "seeing" Jesus on the way to Damascus, he became one of the greatest apostles the earth has ever produced.
Results of "Seeing" Jesus: Your spiritual life can receive a great boost today. You sure need an encounter with Jesus, if you must move from the ordinary life to one that really pleases God. You will receive a personal experiential knowledge of him that will keep you till the end without filling. When you encounter Jesus, be becomes your redeemer and sanctifier - I Corinthians 1:30. He reveals keys to a successful Christian life — one that is fruitful and is honoured by God.
Open your heart to Jesus today. See and be transformed. Come out of mediocre Christianity and plunge into great walks with GOD - JESUS ALONE CAN DO IT.
GO TO HIM IN PRAYER NOW and do not stop until you are transformed.
