What is Tau Beta Sigma?
History

Established in 1946 at Texas Tech University, Tau Beta Sigma is the national honorary band service sorority that is located on over 125 college and university campuses across the nation. Thousands of band students have devoted their efforts to strengthen their band through group and individual service projects.


Purpose

Tau Beta Sigma opersates as a student organization whose primary function is to assist collegiate band directors in developing leadership and enthusiasm through service in support of the band program.

As an active member of Tau Beta Sigma, you will function as a role model for other band members. Your efforts will assist the band program through participation, planning, organizing, and carrying out projects that are not duplicated by other organizations. Members of Tau Beta Sigma are the leaders and morale-builders of the band program.


Mission Statement

The purpose of Tau Beta Sigma is to support college and university bands by providing service, by participation, by developing leadership, and by encouraging the advancement of women in the band profession.


Membership

To be eligible for membership in the Sorority, a person must be an enrolled student, actively participating in a music organization, and have a desire to devote their time and energy to their band program. Membership is extended only to those who have met standards based on attitude, performance expertise, interest in and appreciation of the best of music. Membership fees are nominal, and include the national initiation fees, and annual membership dues.
