101 Ways
(The Things a Girl Has To Do To Keep Her Volvo)
By Terri

I'm not one to run out and rent Independent films but I have to say this one is worth the rental fee. It's about a young woman fresh out of college named Watson (played by Wendy Hoopes), who as an aspiring writer, moves from New York City to New Haven, Connecticut to work on her first novel. Guess she thinks she'll find inspiration in Connecticut (yeah, right). The story is about a woman trying to find her niche in life as a novelist as well as trying to save her beloved Volvo from being repossessed while trying to get laid in the process (with the check out guy at the grocery store who's obsessed with his cat, no less!).  She has a problem keeping her priorities straight but it all works out in the end. Wendy Hoopes is very funny and believable as Watson, who manages to meet some of the funniest characters I've seen in a long time. Gabriel plays airline pilot Dirk, a guy that pops in and out of Watson's life on layovers and has an aversion to "french kissing people I don't know very well", though screwing them, appearantly, is OK. This character is so shockingly funny from the second he opens his mouth that I literally barked with laughter (not a pretty sight, folks!). I don't know whose idea it was for him to use the voice he did (sounded like something between John Wayne and Rod Serling), and I don't know if it was Gabriel's idea to use the facial expressions he did, but he managed to make a very handsome and dashing man look like the biggest dork.  I would love to see Gabriel have bigger roles in comedies because he is a natural!

I give this an "A" for it's story, acting and overall quality. Don't miss this one!
