TCIS Outlook

Girls 4x800: Norfolk Academy.  They have 8 girls under 2:50 and at Conn-Madden relays had 2 teams finish in front of the first TCIS team.  Peninsula Catholic should take second.  Norfolk Christian could pick up third.  Greenbrier Christian and Walsingham are next.  Bishop Sulivan could run their top 2 girls and be up witn Norfolk Christian.

Boys 4x800: Norfolk Academy’s A team beat Norfolk Christians A team in a close one at Captains Classic on Good Friday.  However, I think its more likely that NCH will run their A team than NA will.  Currently the rest of the teams are hovering at 9.  Greenbrier Christian has been consistently right at 9 and they will fight with Peninsula Catholic and Walsingham for the next spot.  Nansemond-Suffolk looked like they had more bodies in the Greenbriar meet than they’ve had in years and could put a team together.  Recently they ran 9:10.  Norfolk Collegiate had enough guys for a relay team, they could easily slip under 9.

Girls 100 Hurdles: Rebekah McCann(GCA) is a 2-time conference champion, but Christine Sargent(NA) has not lost to her yet this year and has looked very consistant.  Bekah Cherry(NCH) is dangerous if she pops a good one.  Michelle Sutherland(NA) is under 18 and is looking to improve.  I haven’t seen any other 3 steppers in the conference, so the last 2 spots are hard to predict, possibly Karp from NA who is right at 19.

Boys 110 Hurdles: Justin Delar (PC) was a very close second last year and would be my pick to win, all I’ve seen out of him this season is a 17.5, but that is prob good enough this year.  I thought Greenbrier would have one, but haven’t seen one.  David Crouch(NA) is running in the 17s.  It’s looking like a thin event this year.  NA has a bunch of guys right at 19.

Girls 100:  Is looking loaded again.  Deonna Barnes(GCA) is the defending champion and is still running right around 13.  Carina Tate(CH) has looked very good as well.  Christine Sargent has been right at 13.  Elizabeth Cherry(NCH) is a two-time state champion and can’t be counted out.  Leilani Lawrence (BS) Candice Spellmeyer(W) and some girl at HRA are some other names to throw out.

Boys 100: Ryan Edlich(BS) looks to have a good chance.  Aaron Ransom(GCA), the defending TCIS champ, had one of the best set of performances ever at TCIS last year.  But this year in All-America in late march he suffered what appeared to be a very bad hamstring pull.  I have not seen him since and do not think he’ll be full strength.  He’ll prob run wrapped.  Nick Evasco(NA) has been 11.2 hand and mid 11s FAT and has looked very good against TCIS competition.  I haven’t seen Odanga(BS).  Asa Jackson(HRA) should make the finals if he’s running.  Walsingham has good 200/400 guys, but I’m not sure how they run in the 100.

Girls 1600: Anica Bilisoly(NA) tripled last year in the 1600/800/3200.  She was the runner up in XC, but was 5-1 against TCIS champ Taryn Schrader(BS).  She’s run 5:16 this year.  Taryn is running some, but I  haven’t seen her in anything but a 3200.  Kelli Morrissey(CH) ran 5:37 recently.  Barclay(NCH) ran 5:42 at NA on 4/26 and beat Lauren Waldholz(NA), who was the runner up last year and is consistently in the 5:40s.  Both Sara Edwards and Sofie Wolfe from NA can run under 5:50.  Stephanie Lee(GCA) can go under 6 and Peninsula Catholic should have a girl in the mix.

Boys 1600M: David Rushing(NA) beat defending TCIS champ Chris Shultz(W) with a 61 second last quarter at Peninsula Relays.  He has not lost an open event fresh this season.  Shultz is much improved and ran right around 4:33.  Caleb Baker(NCH) and Daniel Pesich(NCH) can both run around 4:40, but they may run the 4x800 first.  Ian Tupper(NCO) was the XC champ and has been training, but didn’t look to know how to run a 1600 on Thursday, he was out in 29 for his first 200, and then Rushing and Baker got by him as he paid the price later on.  He ran 4:48, but showed he’s very capable of running under 4:40.  Gounley (PC) should be able to break 5, John Warner(NA) ran 4:57 indoors.

Girls 4x100:  Norfolk Christian has been the best I’ve seen.  Norfolk Academy and Greenbrier Christian should fight for the next spot.

Boys 4x100: Norfolk Academy has run as fast as anyone(under 47) without using Kennedy or Rushing.  Walsingham has good athletes and if Greenbrier gets Ransom healthy this would be a good place to use him.  Bishop Sulivan is right at 47 too.

Girls 400M:  Kate Tabor(BS) was solid here last year but I haven’t seen a good time yet.  Kate Shaw has run 62 in the past, but I haven’t seen her this year.  Goodhope(NCH) ran under 65 just recently.  Jennifer Caughey(NA) can run 65.  Meyer(NCH) is at 67

Boys 400M:  This is not the event to try to sneak someone in.  Aaron Ransom hurt or not could be a threat here.  Florian Cords(W) looks poised to take the meet record under 50.  His teammate Connor McGreggor is under 52.  Jason Kennedy(NA) should challege as well as he could easily shave seconds off his time with a haircut.  Dambra and Ott are back for Greenbriar.  Scott(NA) is quickly improving and could be in the mix.  Another potential placer is Mcdonald at NSA who has run 54.8.  Its also possible we could see Ryan Edlich(BS) here, he has the talent to be a threat up front.

Girls 300 Hurdles:  Former teammates Bekah Cherry(NCH) and Michelle Sutherland(NA) should duel this one out.  Rebekah McCann(GCA) has not been sharp this season.  Christine Sargent(NA) is a possibility.

Boys 300 Hurdles:  Justin Delar(PC) if he steps to the line.  David Crouch(NA) has been right around 45.  There are a number are guys running 47ish.  Hurdles are looking thin this year.

Girls 800: Anica Bilisoly has been averaging 2:27s on windy days uncontested.  She ran 2:23 indoors.  Tabor(BS) was right at 2:29 last season but I haven’t seen her race and she may not be at that mark this year.  Sara Edwards(NA) has been a very impressive lead off leg in the 4x800 a few times in a row and is averaging under 2:35.  Lauren Waldholz and Emily Gower are Norfolk Academy’s other two in the mid 2:30s, of course they can only run 3.  Kelli Morrissey(CH) ran 2:35 recently.  Stephanie Lee(GCA) is in the mid 2:30s.

Boys 800M:  David Rushing split under 1:59 a couple times this season and has run 2:01 open.  Caleb Baker is under 2:05.  Chris Shultz should be in the mix.  John Warner(NA) has been under 2:10, and Greenbrier has a runner who is right there.  The other 2 Norfolk Christian legs in the 4x800 can both place, and Ian Tupper(NCO) could be in the mix if he ran, but could only muster a 2:17 after his 1600 on Thursday.

Girls 200M:  Deonna Barnes(GCA) and Elizabeth Cherry(NCH) should be the top 2.  Spellmeyer(W), Tate(CH), Lawrence(BS), Goodhope(NCH) are all 28.5 or better.

Boys 200M: Aaron Ransom(GCA) will have his hands full if hes not 100%.  Ryan Edlich(BS), Florian Cords(W), and Nick Evasco(NA) all could be under 23.

Girls 3200M:  Norfolk Academy is looking strong enough that Anica Bilisoly(NA) might not have to run this event this year.  Taryn Schrader(BS) would be right with her if she ran.  Lauren Waldholz(NA) was 2nd last year and has run 12:30.  I expect PC will have a number of placers in this event.  Erica Moore(NA) or Rachael Gross(NA) could be in the mix.

Boys 3200M:  Daniel Pesich(NCH) should get the nod over Thomas Gounley(PC), but if Ian Tupper runs somewhat fresh I would expect him to win.  Chris Shultz definitely has the talent to be up there.  We could see Caleb Baker(NCH) in the race.  David Rushing(NA) could be a possibility as well although he’s never run it.  Others to watch are John Warner(NA) who has run 10:45 and Emerson(W) a sub 5 miler who I haven’t seen run anything yet.

Girls 4x400:  I don’t know, I imagine Norfolk Christian and Norfolk Academy could put solid teams together.  PC and Walsingham are just as capable.

Boys 4x400:  Walsingham and Norfolk Academy could make this interesting.  Walsingham ran 3:34 at Peninsula Relays.  Norfolk Academy has the ability to do the same.  Meet record is Norfolk Catholic in 1985 with a 3:33.5.  Next should be Greenbrier Christian and Norfolk Christian.

Girls Long Jump:  Christine Sargent(NA) has jumped over 17’ this year and should be the favorite.  Tate(CH) and McCann(GCA) are both in the high 16s.  Spellmeyer(W) is in the mid 15s.  The Cherry sisters(NCH) in the past have jumped in the 15s.  Suggs from PC could be in the mix

Boys Long Jump: Aaron Ransom(GCA) if he’s healthy isn’t a sure bet.  Edlich(BS) is a great jumper as well.  David Rushing(NA) has jumped over 20ft too.

Girls Triple Jump: Bekah McCann(GCA) has jumped high 35s and 36ish before, but has been in the 33-34 range this season.  Christine Sargent(NA) has been at 35ft.  Bekah Cherry(NCH), Michelle Sutherland(NA), and Magdycz(PC) are all over 30’.

Boys Triple Jump: Ryan Edlich(BS) should win easily.  Nobody else is over 40’ right now.  David Crouch(NA) has been over 38’.

Girls High Jump:  Michelle Sutherland(NA) has cleared 5’ this season.  Christine Sargent(NA) and Simone Gilman(W) have cleared 5’ in the past.  I don’t know if Wright is back at PC.

Boys High Jump: Edlich should win easy, Delar could be second.  This event is extremely thin.

Girls Shot:  Christine Sargent(NA) won last year and throws over 30’, Alley Johnson(NA) has been at 29’.  Felecia Flaum(W) is throwing in the 28-29 range as well.  Thompson (NCH) is high 27s.  And Suggs(PC) has thrown 27.

Boys Shot:  Everyone from last year is gone.  Robbie Scott(NA) and C. Rhodes(HRA) have thrown over 40’.  Greenbrier has throwers in the 40’ range as well. Barclay(NCH) and Rolland Tillar(BS) are in the high 36’ range.   l.

Girls Discus:  Felicia Flaum(W) is near 100.  Suggs(PC) throws in the high 80s.  Christine Sargent and Alley Gross of NA throw in the 85’ range, Eggleston(HRA) has been over 80’.  Alley Johnson(NA) is in the mid 70s.

Boys Discus: C. Rhodes(HRA) is throwing near 120’.  Tillar(BS) and Buffa(HRA) are very close to 110’.  Robbie Scott(NA), Ankit Javia(NA), and Barclay(NCH) are all hovering at 100’.  I’m sure Greenbrier has some throwers over 100’ as well.
